Notes

967. John Fred Carpenter

Uncle Fred lived in Hawthorne, Calif. after the war.  He was in the
Army.  He married a lady named Katherine Smith.   They had a son named
Charles.  Katherine left Fred for another man and left Charles with
Fred.  Fred's Mom and Dad (Barney and Mabel) took care of the baby for
over a year and then Katherine came and took him back.  She took him to
Fla.  Fred then  married aunt Lil.  He met her while staying wiht Aunt
Nobie.  They never had any children.  Fred worked for a manufacturing
company until just before he was ready to retire the plant closed down.
He and Lil moved back to Lineville, Ala.  Uncle Fred died there.  My
"Unca Fred" always made me laugh.  He was a member of the Garfield
Church in Clay Co., ALA.

Katherine Smith

Lillian was not only the wife of my mom's first cousin, but she was also my
dad's sister.  She was a wonderful person who loved everyone.

973. Lamar Watson Carpenter

Dad and Uncle Fred left Alabama during the 2nd World War and ended up in
Southern Calif.  Dad worked for Herco Foundry, McDonnell Douglas and the
last twenty some years for the So. Calif. Gas Co. until his retirement
to Las Vegas.
My father walks on water as far as we are concerned.  Strong, corny-joke
loving, helpful to everyone and can do anything.  Brought us up the old
fashion way yet gave us enough rope to feel we were independent.  A
religious man.  Baptist.  I could never say enough about my dad.
