Y-DNA research indicates the biological father was a Carpenter from Group 5.After a review of Group 5 descendants and focused on 14 counties in Texas in and around Denton County, Tarrant County and Dallas County with the following criteria; Males with the Carpenter/Zimmerman surnames, born 1895 to 1908 with any connection to the 14 counties searched, I found six (6) possible candidates in three (3) families.
While all are descendants of John (Hans) Zimmerman-92092
The last four are closer related as being descendants of Henry Carpenter-112677.Of the six possbiles, the first two sons of William Jasper Carpenter-147418 of Tarrant County, Texas.

In 1930 he is single and was in Precinct 4, Denton, Texas as a boarder with the Gardner family. He married 23 Dec 1927 in Grapeville, Tarrant, TX. His wife was from Roanoke, Denton, TX.2) Robert Lee Carpenter-148284 (William Jasper) was born on 11 May 1903 in , Stonewall, TX. He died in Nov 1972 in , Tarrant, TX. He did not marry until 17 Mar 1934 in Roanoke, Denton, TX. Not sure where he was in 1930.
The next two possibles are sons of Doc Solomon Carpenter-148244 of Denton County, Texas. See B) below. He has another son (b. 1909) just outside the birth range not listed here.
