Winifred Carpenter died june 4, 2002. Services at north funeral home burial at Elmwood Memorial Park. Born in Abilene he married Emma Clarice Thorton in 1933. He served in the Army in WW11 and recieved the bronze star. He owned a concrete comapny for 35 years and loved hunting and fishing. He was preceeded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Emma of Abilene; two daughters, Sandy and husband Buddy Myer of Abilene and Vernoghn Strole of Abilene; one son, Jimmy and wife, Mary Carpenter of Edmond, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Melia and husband Mack Randolph of Harlingen, Texas, Lori and husband Keith Wood of Carrollton, Texas, Courtney and husband Mark Lewallen of Houston, Murray Carpenter of Edmond, Oklahoma, Mindy and husband Rick McClure of Colleyville, Texas, Misty Meyer of Lubbock, Texas; and 14 great- grandchildren.
Winfred and Emma were the best neighbors a young Air Force wife could ask for. They doted on my baby from the moment she was born. I missed them when we moved but they remain in my heart forever. Winfred had a big old dog named boy who would climb up in the truck and go with Winfred when the weather permitted. Boy had to be put to sleep due to his hips and failing health. Emma had two poodles, their names escape me. But she would often have their mother over while her daughter was away.
Heaven is a better place with Winfred and Emma there.
