History of Audubon County
Pages 806-807
ROBERT C. CARPENTER is a native of the State of Kentucky, born in Bath County, near Owensville, June 1. Levi Carpenter, his father, was a native of the same State, and a son of Michael Carpenter, of German ancestry, among the early settlers of Kentucky. Susan (Moore) Carpenter, mother of Robert C., was born in Kentucky, a daughter of Robert Moore, also a native of Kentucky. Levi Carpenter was for many years a resident of Kentucky removed from Bath County to Morgan County, Indiana, and resided there until he went to Poweshiek County, where he died in 1870. His wife survived him until 1882. She was the mother of eight children, four of whom are Robert C. Carpenter passed the greater part of his youth in Morgan County, Indiana. He received such advantage were afforded by the common schools of that day. He remained with his parents until his twenty first year, when he began farming in Morgan County on his own account. In 1851 he bade farewell to the Hoosier State and emigrated to Poweshiek County, Iowa, which was at that time considered the frontier. There he studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1868. Since that time he has been engaged in the law and general farming, which he pursued until 1878, removed to Audubon County. He first settled in Viola Township, two miles west of the farm which he now owns. He remained there two years, and at the end of that time he moved to his present farm on section 15. He has eighty acres of as choice land as Audubon County affords. The place is well improved and is one of the neatest little farms in that part of the county. In 1846 Mr. Carpenter was united in marriage to Miss Mahala Thurman, a second cousin to Allen Thurman of Ohio. Mrs. Carpenter was born in Highland County, Ohio, December 22, 1822, and removed with her parents to Morgan County, Indiana, when a young girl. Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter have had born to them nine children. Frank M., John C., Levi T., Mary, wife of Harlin Griffen; Robert M., Malissa Ann, Sarah C., Anderson C. and Dora. Mr. Carpenter has served as justice of the peace over thirty years, and has held many other township offices, always acquitting himself honorably and with much credit. He has also served as county supervisor for four years. Politically he gives his undivided support to the issues of the Democratic party. He is a member of La Fayette Lodge, No. 52, A.F. & A.M. He is also notary public.

Death: Jun. 18, 1858
William McNabb was among the first settlers of Washington Township, Poweshiek County, Iowa. He located about 10 miles south of Grinnell in the Blue Point neighborhood. He was a influential citizen, living there until his untimely death by lightning. William McNabb was on his way home from Montezuma, Iowa on June 18, 1858 when a heavy electrical storm came up and in a low revine, as he was driving along with one horse, he was struck by lightning and both he and the horse were instantly killed. He was found soon thereafter. The horse had fallen to the ground, but William McNabb remained in an upright position in the buggy. The electricity entered the body from the head and passed through his body. His foot was burned and the sole of his shoe was torn off. The electrical current also affected the watch in his pocket, burning streaks appearing across the face of the dial. He was brought home and buried at Blue Point.

299. John L. Timmerman

WARNING!!! - Children very speculative due to location and time.
NOTE:  Reportedly John L had only one child (Shimuel) with Frances M. Dorn.

PRF1:
John Timmerman Sr
Notes (1)
John, Sr was the fourth child and fourth son of Jacob and Elizabeth
Clegg Timmerman.  He married Frances Malonie Lonie' Dorn and had
apparently died prior to the death of his father.  In Jacob's will
dated April 1826, he leaves "one share to the child or children of my
deceased son John".  This would indicate that Frances was pregnant at
the time the will was written and that John Jr. was born after the
death of his father.

Watson Dorn wrote:
Following is a message I recently sent H.C. showing another Timmerman-
Dorn connection.
John Timmerman, son of Jacob, married Frances Malonie Dorn, daughter
of Peter Dorn.  After John's early death (1826), she married Barville
Permenter and moved to Clinch County, GA - later becoming Echols
To add to Watson's info-
Fanny Timmerman was the recipient of distributions due John'schildren,
John and Shimuel, from their grandfather, Jacob Timmerman's estate,
from 1827-1832.  In 1833 & 1834, Barvel/Barwell Permenter is the
recipient.  Looks as if they married after the December 1832
distribution.    One of Shimuel's sons, Ransom B. Timmerman, later
returned to Edgefield and married Ella Virginia Timmerman, daughter of
James C. Timmerman.
