Henry Duane Carpenter, 73, of Conover, N.C., passed away Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016 at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Born Feb. 1, 1943 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late William Harrell Carpenter and the late Catherine Huffman Carpenter.
He was a veteran of the Army National Guard serving over 30 years. Duane was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Claremont, a member of American Legion Post 48, and the Masonic Lodge of Catawba Riverside 606. He was the owner of Pappy's Kitchen in Conover.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William "Bill" Carpenter; and two sisters, Miriam Little and Joan Meadlin.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Carpenter of the home; two sons, Jody Carpenter and wife, Kelly of Advance and Cody Carpenter of the home; daughter, Cobie Carpenter of the home; grandson, Cade Shoemaker; and granddaughter, Regan Shoemaker.
The Funeral Service will be held Sunday, Feb. 28, at 3 p.m., at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Claremont with Pastor Gary Haddock, Pastor Paul Christ, and the Rev. Peggy Stout officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery*. The family will receive friends Sunday, from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. at St. Mark's Family Life Center prior to the service.
