1340. Jacob Quickle Carpenter

In 1846 J.Q. Carpenter volunteered for the US Army and fought in theMexican War at Vera Cruz. After the War he came to Spartanburg Co.,SC, and became a merchant at Grassy Pond where he remained until theCivil War.  In 1861 he volunteered for service in the SC 5th Regiment.He was promptly elected Captain of Company G. In 1862 he was electedCaptain of Company M, Palmetto Sharpshooters. He served in Virginia.On May 31, 1862, while at the Battle of Seven Pines, Capt. JacobQuickle Carpenter was killed.
