GASTONIA Velma Faith Carpenter age 96 of 2300 Aberdeen Blvd. (formerly of 602 14th St. Bess City) Gastonia, N.C. died Monday, July 17, 2000.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM today (Wednesday, July 19, 2000) at Grace Lutheran Church in Bessemer City with Rev. Cyrus Frazier officiating. Visitation is 1:00-2:00 PM today, at the church. Burial in Bethel Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Ms. Carpenter was born March 28, 1904 in Gaston County, N.C. daughter of the late Pryor Sylvanus 'P.S.' & Rebecca Melinda Carpenter Carpenter. She was a member of Landers Chapel Methodist Church, attended Grace Lutheran Church in Bessemer City and was a graduate of Lenoir Rhyne College in 1927. She was a retired teacher from Tryon Elementary in 1969.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Cleveland, Clayton, Clarence & Grady Carpenter; sisters, May Kiser, Ila Huss, Beulah Friday, Lillian Payne Iva Lee Reynolds & Hazel Pasour.
Survivors include a number of nieces & nephews, and a special niece, Kathy Holland.
Obituary published in The Charlotte Observer on July 19, 2000.
