OBITUARY: Information posted by Dee West Tremayne on 28 Dec 2003 on MyFamily.com: "Herschel Edward Carpenter 73 died Sunday morning in the Lewis A. Johnson Va Medical Center, Clarksburg, following a lengthy illness. He was born in Fairmont Sept. 23, 1911, a son of the late Phoenix and Zora Belle Coffman Carpenter.  He is survived by his wife, Lillian Howell Carpenter, One son Herschel Edward "Eddy" Carpenter JR. of Ohio; one brother Charley Carpenter of St. ALbans and one grandson Lance Edward Carpenter of Charleston. One daughter Judith Ann, One brother Clarence and two sisters are deceased.  He was a retired employee of Owens Illinois Glass with over 40 years of service. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the Navy. He was a graduate of East Fairmont high class of 1930. He was a member of the Diamond Street United Methodist Church and the Methodist men of the church. He was a member of the Fairmont Lodge no. 9, AF&A Masons and the Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Morgantown. He was the past president and past chairman of the board for Fairmont Federal Credit Union. He was an avid CB'er with the handle woodchopper. In his earlier life he was active in scouting in troup no. 1. Friends may call at the Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home from 1-5 p.m. Monday, 6-9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Meredith Ball Officiating. Burial will be in the Harmony Grove Cemetery in Taylor County.  dod 12/23, 1984."
