I have done a little more research. There is another Thomas besides the General.

4th regiment  lists Thomas and James as privates (New York in the Rev.) Westchester county page 214, page 266 lists the two under the Land Bounty rights - but this is in the 2nd regiment of Westchester County under General Thomas Carpenter. So they have switched regiments. How does one find those records?

2nd Regiment lists Col. Thomas Thomas and Lieut. Thomas Carpenter ( page 204)

From the Roster of Troops, page 339
There is only one James listed ( private under Crane and Truesdell) 4th regiment
There are three Thomas listed:
1 - Lieut. Under Thomas/ Thomas (Also states ** run through the body with a bayonet at Harrison's Purchase, November 8, 1778. Shoemaker, Harrisons, Westchester Co. C20, I 125 is this a book)
2. Private under Harper/Drake
3. Private under Crane/ Truesdell (4th Regiment)

On the 1790 Census, 1800, 1810, both James and Thomas. For Harrisons, Purchase Township, Westchester County. We know that my James is there.

Elijah Carpenter along with Colvill Carpenter are listed on (page 253) Orange Count Militia 1st regiment (New York in the Rev -  Land Bounty Rights)

I also read some things about a Thomas Carpenter in the Purchase Monthly meeting. The son of Joseph. (perhaps older brother to James, son of Benedict) but the Carpenter Book does not list a son named Thomas for Joseph Carpenter s. of Benedict. I need to investigate the dates to see what generation they are discussing. Could this be the Thomas we are looking for? They would be first cousins.

7457. Phila Carpenter

Number 490 in the Carpenter Family in America, 1901.
No further trace.

Could this be Philany or Philena Carpenter who married Eleazer Rhoades, Jr.
(son of Eleazer Rhoades, Sr.) who died 1820?
She had at least one child named Ezekiel Rhoades who was born in 1799 in
Dummerston, Windham, VT and died 1845 in Fulton county, IL.
Ezekiel married Eliza Vashti Blackington b. 1799 VT d. Pacific county,
Washington Territory buried Bruceport Cemetery, Pacific county, WA and who
was a daughter of George Blackington.
Ezekiel's children were: 1) Alphonso b. 1820 Tioga county, NY, d. 20 Mar 1860
and is buried in Champoeg Pioneer Cemetery, Champoeg, OR.  2) George b. 6 Jul
1822 Tioga county, NY, d. aft 1863 and is buried in Champoeg Pioneer Cemetery.
3) Dalinda b. 21 July 1825 in Clermont county, OH, d. 10 Feb. 1882 in Oakville,
Linn county, OR and is buried in Oakville Cemetery.  She married a John Brown
Goodell of Genesse county, NY on 3 Aug 1843 in fulton county, IL.

7459. Elizabeth Carpenter

Number 492 in the Carpenter Family in America, 1901.
Nothing further.

7461. William Penn Carpenter

Number 494 in the Carpenter Family in America, 1901.
William married, wife's name not known.  They had one son, who died unmarried.

7462. Thomas Thorne Carpenter Jr.

Number 495 in the Carpenter Family in America, 1901.
He died unmarried.

3212. Zeno Carpenter

Number 196 in the Carpenter Family in America book, 1901.
He and his wife resided in Canterbury, Orange county.  But aside from the
names of his children nothing else was found on this family.
Per his father's bible, "My son Zeno Carpenter departed this life Eight day of
the second month 1795, near 10 O clock in the morning."

NOTE: This Zeno is confused with another Zeno b. 8 Dec 1773 in New Castle, Westchester, NY son of Caleb and Anne Carpenter.  The marriage date for him is listed as 8 Feb 1796. To make matters worse both married a Hannah and children are similar indicating duplication.
AND another Zeno born 18 May 1762 in New Castle, Westchester, NY has been confused, especially a later wife. See:

To:   CARPENTER-L@rootsweb.com
Hi all,
A while ago I played devils advocate and challenged the marriage of Benjamin (b. 1762) to Freelove Fowler siting the fact that there were other Freeloves in the area. One example was a Freelove Thorn, a quaker who had married a Fowler, that could have been Benjamin's wife. Well after a little research I located the real Freelove through  the
"Abstracts of Wills Vol V 1754-1760, The New York Historical Society, 1896.  on Page 56". The abstract is as follows:
Page 223.--In the name of God, Amen, January 3, 1755. I, MOSES FOWLER, of
North Castle, in Westchester County, Innkeeper, being very sick. I leave
to my wife Elizabeth the best bed and furniture, and one cow, one horse,
"and a green plush side saddle and a bridle." Out of the remainder of my
personal estate all debts and funeral charges to be paid, and of what is
left my wife is to have 1/3. I leave to my beloved sons, Henry and
Newbury Fowler, all the farm where I now live, being in North Castle,
with the house, barn, and orchard, to be divided when my eldest son Henry
shall be 21, Also all my piece of land in the East Patent in North
Castle. I leave to my eldest son Henry my silver pike, which was given to
me by my beloved father, William Fowler, in his will, and I leave to my
youngest son Newbury my scimetar which was given to me by my father in
his will. I leave to my daughter, Freelove Fowler, 1/3 of movable estate,
"and if it should not turn out œ40, my son Henry shall make it up." To my
daughter, Esther Fowler, I leave 1/3 of movable estate, and if it does
not amount to œ40, my son Newbury is to make it up. My wife is to have
the use of all the farm where I now live so long as she remains my widow.
I make my brother, Caleb Fowler, and my brother in law, Samuel Haight,
executors. If they both die, then my brother in law, Robert Dickinson,
and Peter Totten, Jr.
Witnesses, Samuel Dean, David Lane, Gershom Miers. Proved, April 3, 1755.
In this abstract it sets the Fowler line, has the proper location and friends and also answers who Benjamin's son Henry was named after.    Jack

7481. Henry Carpenter

Number 515(a) in the Carpenter Family in America book of 1901.
On page 149 Henry is listed as being born about 1786 and on page 215 as being
born about 1790.  Could there have been two Henrys?  Probably.

7484. Moses Carpenter

Number 517 in the Carpenter Family in America book of 1901.
He was a cabinet maker.  No family listed.
A Moses Carpenter was a member of convention in 1801, New York held at Albany
on October 13-27, to settle contrversy between the Governor and Council.
