Subject: [CARPENTER] Josiah CARPENTER (1719-1747) & Huldah WALKER,of Rehoboth & Attleboro, MA
I wish to advise any interested subscribers of an article I have written
and that has been published in the September 2010 issue of THE MAYFLOWER
QUARTERLY chronicling the life of Huldah (WALKER) Carpenter (b.1721 in
Rehoboth, MA), the daughter of Timothy and Grace (Child) Walker and wife of Josiah
Carpenter (1719-1747), son of Obadiah and Deliverance (Preston) Carpenter.
It contains, to my knowledge, information pertaining to Huldah (Walker)
Carpenter and her descendants that has never been published in the past.
The article, seventeen pages in length, contains a biography of Huldah
Walker, an outline of her iimmediate descendants down to her grandchildren, and
ninety five endnotes.
Most major libraries should have a copy of THE MAYFLOWER QUARTERLY on hand,
so most people should have access to the article, for free.

Dear Mr. Carpenter,
If you have an opportunity to review my article, I believe you will be pleased by the quality of the references. My article illustrates that very little has been published about Huldah (Walker) and I would relate more here, but I don't want this to serve as a spoiler, of sorts, as the article was only recently published. As you may have surmised, I am the same Charles Ward who wrote the article, "Carpenter Descendants of John Howland in Tennessee," also appearing the THE MAYFLOWER QUARTERLY (February 1995 issue (volume 61, number 1) that dealt with Josiah and Huldah (Walker) Carpenter's grandson, the Reverend Timothy Carpenter (1773-1853) and his wife, Hannah (Brown) Carpenter. Hannah Brown was a descendant of Pilgrim John Howland. The Reverend Timothy Carpenter (1773-1853) was the son of Deacon Cyril Carpenter (1743-1811) and his wife, Lucy (Lane) Carpenter and he was the grandson of Josiah Carpenter (1719-1747) and his wife, Huldah Walker.
Yours sincerely,
Charles Ward
more:
My most recent article, "Huldah (Walker) Carpenter Willmarth Walker (1721-1815), of Rehoboth and Attleboro, MA: Matriarch of the Carpenter Family," appears in the September, 2010 issue of THE MAYFLOWER QUARTERLY. No comprehensive biography of Huldah (Walker) Carpenter has appeared before and I believe anyone reading it will find information not published in the past, not only dealing with Huldah, but also with her children and grandchildren. One only has to read the title of my latest article to realize previously published works mentioning Huldah neglected to comprehensively document her life. My article documents her three marriages and the fact she lived to be nearly one hundred years old. A.B. Carpenter listed her date of death as being in 1747, which is totally wrong. Nevertheless, that hasn't stopped others from recording that date of death on numerous online sites. My most recent article addresses, among other things, the children inaccurately attributed to Josiah Carpenter and Huldah Walker, by A.B. Carpenter. It discusses the children of Deacon Cyril Carpenter and his first wife, Lucy (Lane) Carpenter and a child A.B. Carpenter attributed to them that cannot be substantiated by contemporary records. I also make reference to and quote the published funeral sermon of Deacon Cyril Carpenter, which I don't believe has ever been referenced or commented upon in the past. If I hadn't felt I had a significant number of new sources and material, I wouldn't have undertaken the considerable effort to publish my latest article. Charles Ward
