Subject: Carpenter update:
Most of my information on this line (John Carpenter/ Miranda Jackson) came from "Hughes and Allied Families" which was written before 1900, and consequently many of the families are truncated. You may well be right as to the addition of David and Dennis, but I don't have any firm data. Another correspondent (Jane Yaples) has added Abigail, b. 1839 to the list of children. Again, I have no additional data. As to locations, I can add the following (all from a closer look at Hughes).
Lyman L. (62828) b. Virgil, NY
His wife Marietta Seelenger (63003) was b. in Truxton, (?)
All their children were b. Virgil
Joshua J. (62998) and his wife Amy (b. Gibson, PA) were m. at Harford, NY
Helen (63085) b. Richford, NY
Selah J. (63086) b. Ulysses
Third Generation John M. Carpenter (63080) was b. in Virgil, NY
I'm afraid that's all I have.

The final pension papers for his father Daniel lists Harvey, Orson, Asa, Eber and Rosanna, wife of Ezra Chappel of Fairfield, OH. This updated by "Winifred Sihon"
7 April 2007 Rita Hehrer claims that the father was Daniel Carpenter who served in the Revolution. On establishing the identity of Daniel Carpenter whose pension was filed in 1818 we see that census records indicate that Daniel has 4 unnamed sons as well as the 3 named sons- Asa, Orson-and Harvey. We feel that the Tuttle connection to Theodosia and Eunice is also fairly evident as Daniel claimed to owe money to Chauncey Tuttle and was apparently living with Chauncey and Theodosia in the 1820 census in Vienna, Oneida Co., NY, from whence in 1816 he made his original pension application. Eber was born in CT according to his 1850 census. Rita Hehrer has siblings of Eber as Sally, Ronanna, Theodosia, Levi, Harvey, and Eunice and this is somewhat verified by the known children of Daniel. If this conclusion is correct, then Eber came with his father from Stafford CT to Pompey, Onandaga Co., NY and then went his own way: in Hannibal, NY where Omar was born and for 1820 census; in Lima, New York for 1830 census and where Oscar was born, in Adrian, MI, where Obadiah Platt had settled when Galusha was born in 1832. Shortly after that he purchased the Salem property and was there for 1840 and 1850 census. His name is mentioned as starting Baptist churches in the various County histories and church histories.
