Chauncy went to Fon du Lac county in 1856 where he purchased 120 acres of land which he cultivated for three years.  Then he moved to Hortonia, Outagamie county, WI and bought 80 acres of timbered lands which he cleared and prepared for cultivation.  Locating there permanently, he subsequently obtained more land, which he errected good buildings, and became unusually prosperous, being an excellent manager and a careful financier.  His political views were in favor of the Democratic party.  In 1838 he married Miss Annie M. Losinger.
