Died aged 83 years.

887. Nathaniel Carpenter

Number 607 in the Carpenter Memorial on page 118.
His family is on page 230 (#231).  He was a carpenter and a joiner.

It is possible he married twice.  The notes in my copy of the CM are barely readable. "G.B. Bowmen ?Briar Cem. d. in ?????  13 Apr. 1820". Which looks like a name, place and a death date for the second spouse. Then "m (2) in Lee 1787 (or 1789) Sa??? VT ??" and the rest a blur.

He was Corporal in the 3d military company of Rehoboth, in the first regiment of the county of Bristol in 1767.  He later afterwards acted as Major.

Nathaniel Carpenter of Rehoboth, Captain in the Lexington scare, served 8 days.  Nathaniel Carpenter of Rehoboth, commisioned March 28, 1776 in the Continental Army.  He marched July 23, 1776 to New York and was dismissed Dec. 1, 1776.  He served at White Plains and New York in Col. Major Carpenter of Rehoboth enlisted in Col. Dary's Regiment at West Point from July 10, 1781 to Nov. 8, serving 4 months and 8 days.  His name was on the roll til Oct. 2, 1782.
By the documentary History of New York, Lot 96 of 280 acres of land in Vermont was granted by the goverment of New York to Nathaniel Carpenter in 1786 to 1788.  The record does not indicate to which of the Nathaniel Carpenters the grant was made, however the circumstances point to the Major.  No account was found that the lot was ever occupied by anyone by the name of Nathaniel.

There is three pages of notes and diary extracts on Nathaniel Carpenter starting on page 118 to 121 in the Carpenter Memorial.
