Notes

15602. Estelle Harriet Jones

1870 U.S.Census, Prairieville, Barry, MI.  Estelle is 8 yrs. old and in the home of her parents.

Marriage Records of Barry  MI.  Film 1008319, George E. New and Estelle Jones are married in 1879.  George E. New was the son of George New and Martha Rogers.  Estelle was the daughter of John and Phebe Carpenter Jones. Estelle Jones and her husband George E. New were not related, although it might appear to be the case, because George E. New's mother, Martha Rogers was by Anthony's first wife Maria Reed, and not Estelle's Aunt Margaret Carpenter Rogers who raised George's mother.  Estelle Jones was a dau to Margaret Carpenter Rogers' sister Phebe Carpenter Jones (Her last child). At first glance it would look like Margaret Carpenter Rogers' grandson, married her niece, but George E. was her step-grandson, and no blood relationship existed.

1900 U.S. Census, Kearney, Antrium, MI, George E. is 45 yrs. old, Estelle H., his wife is 38. William L. Jones, b. 3 Aug 1842, age 32, b. NY, was in their home. William was Estelle's brother.

1910 U.S. Census, Antrium, MI, Film:  1370929,  Soundex film 004-0010-0234 & 35. George E. is 55, Estelle is 48, and George E. states they have been married for 30 years. They had 1 child b. 28 Mar 1890, adopted,  who was 20 in 1910. Her name was Leah M. New b. IL. William L. Jones, brother-in-law (to head of household) age 64 was in George E. and Estelle's home in 1910. William and Estelle are brother and sister. (A death record was found in Antrium Co. for Estelle's brother Melvin D. Jones, as #482 in Lake View Cem., so he probably also lived in this area, but was not enumerated on the census.  This should be researched further to see if he married or had a family.

H Estelle Jones is on some records rather than Estelle H.

Marriage Records, Antrium , Mich. Book B, Page 55, Record No. 56, Estelle New (Maiden name Jones) 69, of Bellaire, b. Springwater, (Livingston ) NY. married Lewis York  62, of Bellaire, Mich.  Married on 24 Oct 1931 in Bellaire.  His parents:  Silas York & Sarah Baker.  Her parents:  John Jones & Phebe Carpenter.  Witnesses:  Mary Orcutt & Della Morey, both of Bellaire.  Md. by Herbert Morey, Elder.  Groom's 2nd marriage and the Bride's second marriage.

This letter has Byron Carpenter 30 Oct 1856-10 Nov 1937 at age 81 in 2001 and dose not mention his Daughter Susie. Who wrote this Ltr or what year? In the 1860's census he was living with his parents at age 3, in 1870 census he was 13, in 1880 living with his brother David age 23, in 1900 with Wife Rebecca Ann Conrad/Burden, in 1910 widowed living with daughters Susa, and Ehtel, but his name was mispelled Baron Carpenter and so was Susie's. In 1920 it shows him living with his Daughter Susie and Charles Melvin Mathais 1881-. This is strange, because after 1900 Susie married Harry Frank Strayer, of which he died of diebetes. She might of went back to Charles after his death. In the 1930 census it shows his daughter Susie married to Orie Deardroff. Byron was my GG grandpa. Cotton Top(David Lee Burk(Burke) 1958- living) my Indian name was given to me by Dad, because my three older brothers had dark hair, mine was blonde.
