1st regiment of ,RI volunteers, was enrolled April 7, 1861, was in the famous battle of Bull Run, July 11, 1861, with General Burnside and Governor Sprague of ,RI. He stayed on the field till he shot all his ammunition away while many around him were dead and dying, until a retreat was ordered.
