31237. Raymond Earl Carpenter

VIETNAM K.I.A. = Killed in Action

Note: Raymond Earl Carpenter died in Vietnam 20 February 1968.  "War Claims 1st Area Resident" Sgt. Raymond Earl Carpenter, 20 years, son of Mr and Mrs Roy Carpenter of View, Washington was killed in the fighting near Hue on February 20th.  He was the first Lewis River casualty of the Vietnam War.  Sgt. Carpenter had been in Vietnam since May 1967, in the First Battalion Airborne of the 12th Cavalry Division.  He attended Amboy grade school and graduated from Battle Ground high school in 1965, both in Washington state.  After one quarter of school at Clark College in Vancouver, Washington he began working for International Paper at Chelatchie, Washington and was employed there when drafted in December 1966.  A grandmother Mrs. Edna Carpenter lives at 140 Whalen Loop Road Woodland, Washington.
