Descendants of William Carpenter of Rehoboth, Plymouth Colony, now part of Bristol County, MA

Notes

1782. Seth Carpenter

Number 1101 in the Carpenter Memorial on page 171.  His family is on
page 297 (#370).  A merchant and a farmer.
Moved to New Haven, Conn.

Mary Watson

Of Keene, N.H.

1788. Elisha Carpenter

Number 1109 in the Carpenter Memorial on page 171.
His family is on page 298 (#371).

1790. Elizabeth See Notes Carpenter

Number 1105 in the Carpenter Memorial on page 171.
No Family listed.
Per corrective notes on page 839, Elizabeth married twice.  First
to Ebenezer Walker of Becket, MA then secondly to Burwell Carpenter of
the Providence line that went to Virginia.  This matches data in the Virginia
Carpenter data records.
AFN MTLC-KN and G8XP-PF are believed to be the same person.
However, children birth dates indicate she must have been born circa 1753 or
so.  This seems to contradict the 1762 Elizabeth having children about 1773
unless there was two Elizabeths.   THIS FAMILY ARRANGEMENT LEFT AS IS UNTIL
FURTHER DATA CAN BE FOUND.  JRC 9/2000  SEE BELOW.

MARRIAGE: WARNING:  BURWELL  CARPENTER  married ELIZABETH CARPENTER Abt. 1788,
she was the daughter of ELISHA CARPENTER and DELIVERENCE MAROUGH.
-- This connection is incorrect.  This is false data from Mattie Belle
Carpenter Ross connection to the western VA Carpenters.  I cannot vouch for the
generations from Burwell on down, but it is my understanding that other
researchers have proved more of MBCR Elisha Carpenter with wife Deliverance Marough appears to have been lifted out of the IGI with no justification -- there is no evidence of any connection there and those two individuals did not live in NC.
Per Terry Lee Carpenter.
Burwell may have married an Elizabeth but she was not the daughter of ELISHA
CARPENTER and DELIVERENCE MAROUGH.   Children transfered to the other "Elizabeth.

Isaac Carpenter of Philadelphia, PA, born about 1890-1900
Author: Judith hATHAWAY  Date: 22 Aug 2002 4:19 PM GMT
 Surnames: Lincoln, Winslow, Shrum
Isaac married Rebecca Lincoln (3rd cousin once removed of American president Abraham Lincoln) on 1/5/1826 in Philadelphia. One of their sons, Francis Lincoln Carpenter was my Great Grandfather. I have not yet been able to connect Isaac to the Ky or MA Carpenters. I suspect a link with the New Jersey line.

I read with interest that you are searching aslo for Isaac Carpenter.
Here is what I am searching for and facts that I have.
In Phil. County PA in the census of 1790, there are two Isaac Carpenters listed. In 1800 there is only one remaining.
I have an Isaac in Louisiana in 1797 and he states on the land and military records that he is the son of "Isaac Carpenter form the provience of PA".
I am trying to connect these two Isaacs to a line. Any leads appreciated.
Thanks,
Debbie Carpenter Daniels

1801. Amos Carpenter

Number 1124 in the Carpenter Memorial on page 172.
Family on page 762 (#1591).   HOWEVER ... Amos (b. 1 Feb. 1754 VA) has been
proven to be the son of Solomon & Sudnah or Sudrah (Hughes) Carpenter.
Thus the AFN Number QQZ2-93 applies to Amos (b. 1 Feb. 1754) instead.
It is likely that he married a Mary and had at least one child, but not
Margaret McGlaughlin.  Thus corrections are made.  4/1998 JRC.

BIRTH: Carpenter Memorial has 10 Apr. 1765 but notes
on page 839 corrects it as 14 Feb. 1754.  This BD was for first wife.
Death date in CM notes.
!CM has marriage date as 10 May 1797 but the AF has 20 Feb 1803 as the marriage
date.  Their child Jerimiah was born 3 May 1803 (in VA) per the CM.  Corrective
Notes on page 839 of the CM by Jeremiah L. Carpenter of Carpenter, O. had the
wrong Amos Carpenter.

4481. Jeremiah Carpenter

Number 8059 in the Carpenter Memorial on page 762.
Family on page 763 (#1592).   The Jeremiah as described in the Carpenter
Memorial descended from another Carpenter line.  This information is left
here for correction.  It is possible that a Jeremiah was a son of Amos of this line.
NOTE: Different birth dates are used to describe these two 1 May and 5 May 1803.

1809. Frederick Carpenter

Number 1127 in the Carpenter Memorial on page 172.
His family is on page 298 (#373).

Frederick first lived in New Haven, CT.  From there he moved to Charlestown,
MA.  He was a stoneware manufactuer.   It is handed down in the family that he
served as a major during the War of 1812 and carried dispatches to and from
General Washington when the British occupied Boston, Dorchester and other
places. (Per Thomas V. Carpenter of Summit, NJ (in 1898), the maternal grandson
of Frederick.)

!An attorney at law, County Clerk, Town Representative,County Court Judge for
Washington county and a member of the constitutional convention in 1814.

With only a common school education, he read law with a Mr.
Brown of Norwich, VT and went to Waterbury from there in 1805,
where he commenced the practice of law:  he opened the first law
office in that town.  He immediately became very prominent as a
leading lawyer and a prominent citizen.  He was identified with
the history of the town for nearly fifty years.  There was
hardly an honor which his fellow citizens did not bestow, or a
public trust that he did not receive at their hands. The offices
held by him will plainly show that fact.  He held the office of
town clerk for twenty years.  He was town representative from
1814 until 1818, and from 1819 to 1829 - in all, 14 years.  He
was county court judge for Washington County from 1827 until
1834;  member of the constitutional convention in 1814.2  SOUR S203

duties of nearly all the various town offices;  was selectman
for 17 years;  an acting justice of the peace for 35 years;
representative of the town in the General Assembly for 14 years;
and was a member of the council of census in 1843;  and a member
of the constitutional convention in 1850;  and was side judge of
the county court in 1833 and 1834.  He was very infirm for
several years before his death.2  SOUR S203
