33593. Howard Eugene McNair

Mother was Nora McNair.  This is correct.

Mabel Josephine Jackson

From a letter written in 1966 we were given a different wedding date--13 Sept 1923.

Howard McNair was distantly related to Mabel Josephine Jackson prior to their marriage.    Howard was the son of Nora McNair who was the daughter of John Abner McNair and Eliza Jane Eaton.  John Abner McNair was the son of John H. McNair and Hannah Allen Carpenter. (Hannah Allen Carpenter was a sister to John McNair Carpenter, who is the father of Eunice Carpenter Jackson,  Mabel Josephine Jackson's mother.  Therefore Mabel's grandfather, John McNair Carpenter was a brother to Howard's great-grandmother Hannah Allen Carpenter.

There is even a further relationship because John McNair Carpenter and Hannah Allen Carpenter's mother's maiden name was McNair, Rebecca McNair Carpenter, and her brother Thomas Allen McNair was the father of John H. Nair, Howard's great-grandfather.   If you go one generation further back, Abner Carpenter's, (Rebecca's husband and father to John McNair Carpenter and Hannah Allen Carpenter), mother was Phebe McNair Carpenter, wife of Robert Carpenter.  Robert's father, also named Robert, was killed in the Revolutionary War.  We finally found that Phebe McNair and Rebecca McNair's fathers were half-brothers.  The McNair line is interwoven with the Carpenter line in several places.  We are indebted to Mrs. Fox in Canandaigua, NY for her work on the McNair line as well as Robert Carpenter line.  Hopefully, records we have on the McNair line may be published.

Mabel was listed as "of Akron, OH" on sister Mary's obituary.  Miss Cox's letter gave husband's (Howard McNair's) mother as Nora McNair. Miss Cox was a grandaughter to Jane Carpenter, daughter of Abner Carpenter and Rebecca McNair.
