I also found a short info piece on a Frances Marshal Carpenter Chairman of

son of Zopher settled in that town in 1736.
Also a customer book of Isaac Carpenter listing several Carpenter families in
New castle.

1879-1925 The 432 people who voted in the election of 1889 could hardly
have fitted into a private house for a town meeting but, other than that,
little seems to have been changed by the formal establishment of a town
board. In that year, Francis Carpenter was elected supervisor, as he had
been most years since first elected in 1863. . The history of this period is
dominated by three long term supervisors- Francis Carpenter, John Bowron and
Howard Washburn -each of whom is remembered in a different way. One went on
to higher offices in the county and state, one was forced to resign, and one
was the sub- ject of indictment and trial for misuse of his office, Francis
Marshall Carpenter was 26 years old when he was first elected supervisor,in
1863. His forebears, origi- nally from Wales, had first settled in the town
in 1736 and had long been active in community affairs. His father, Zopher,
had served two terms as town clerk and three terms as supervisor, and two
other members of the fami1y had been supervisors.
Carpenter was supervisor for three periods, totalling 31 years (1863 to
1868, 1871 to 1886, and 1888 to 1896). During four of those years, he also
served as chairman of the Westchester County Board of Supervisors. After his
terms as supervisor, he was elected county treaSUrer(1897 to 1903), served
in the New York State Senate (1904 to 1909) and later was a mernber of the
Board of Regents. In 1875, during Carpenter's second period as super- visor,
Mount Kisco, then partly in the Town of New Castle and partly in the Town of
Bedford, was granted incorporated village status by the state legislature.E-MAIL:
