Michigan, he was born in Ohio in 1830. He married Sarah Fisher McLaughlin on 18 April 1857, Richmond Twp. Huron Co. Ohio. They had six (6) children, Rose, Mary, James, Della, Amy, and Lucy. Their divorce was finalized on 13 Feb, 1875. He had custody of all the children and returned to Ohio. No information after that time. I hope this helps. This is all I have on Samuel.”

Hi John;
I need your help unknotting the information I have to complete my line and update the GEDCOM. From your CECD I have the line coming down from William1 to Caleb Carpenter was married to Rhoda Dyer, b. 1774, E. Bridgewater MA, d. before 1825. I was contacted by a member of the Dyer family and directed to their family web page at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~dyer/william_of_sheepscot/D5.htm#c6824
They show her as dying between 1819 and 1824 in Java, Wyoming, NY and buried date unknown in the Pioneer Cemetery, Wyoming, NY, but more importantly they list the children and dates of birth for Caleb and Rhoda. Their fourth child was Daniel D. Carpenter b. 25 Jul 1808. They also show Daniel as being married to Amy (nee?) Carpenter. They show them as married in1828 in Arcade, Wyoming, NY after the birth of their first son in 1827, that son being Lester J. Carpenter b. 11 Jan 1827. He and Amy had eight children between 1827 and 1841. Amy died some time before 19 Sep 1842 when Daniel was married to Malvina Summerlin, on 19 Sep 1842. They had three children. Elizabeth, b.24 Jan 1844, Alonzo Curtis, b.7 Oct 1845, and Catherine Ursula (Sulie) b.1850. This is where it starts getting confusing. Caleb was married a second time after the death of Rhoda to Rebecca Jane Green in 1825. They had three children, Charles D. Carpenter b.14 Feb 1825, Amasa Green Carpenter, b.6 Apr 1828, in Belleville, OH and Rebecca Jane Carpenter, b.16 Sep 1831 also in Belleville, OH. Everything presented to this point brings me to the place where I have been unwilling to make the final leap to connect my line formally. Okay here we go. In the 1850 Census of Venice Twp., Seneca County, Ohio (attached is Amasa Green Carpenter, age 23, his wife Sarah, age 25, Daniel, age 42 and wife Malvina age 33, along with their children including Samuel age 15, Lester, age either 23 or 28 (hard to tell) and his wife Betsy age 30, and Chaptinler Carpenter age 25 with his wife Emiline age 23. According to Gene Z. Chaptinler Carpenter is Charles D. In the 1860 Census from Richmond Twp, Huron County, Ohio the following individuals are all on the same page together. I failed to mention that all the people on the 1850 Census were also all on the same page. Amasa G. Carpenter, age 33, his wife Sarah, age 34. These ages match as they should. Daniel died in 1851 so he is not here. However Samuel is with an age of 30, five years older than he should be. Lester has an age of 25 which is several years off and Betsy is 23, again seven years younger. Charles (Chaptinler) is still residing in Venice Twp, Seneca Co. with his wife Emiline, age 33 and his Mother Rebecca age 68. Although the counties they live in are different from census to census, looking at a map shows that not only are the counties side by side, but the townships are also adjacent to one another in the counties so they only would have had to move a mile or two to account for the change. I feel confident that these are the same family groups with my direct and proven line through Samuel Wilson Carpenter, son of Daniel D. Carpenter. If you feel that I am on the right track I will go ahead and make my final formal linkage and submit my GEDCOM to you for inclusion in the CECD and FamilyTreeDNA. I look forward to hearing from you at your convenience. Thank you in advance for any input, opinions, or suggestions. I hope you and your family have had a Merry Christmas and I hope for you and yours a most prosperous, healthy, and Very Happy New Year.Sincere best regards Cousin
Dennis L. Carpenter
