Donald married twice.  1) to S. Anderson and they had two children.  Charles
Harlow Mitchell who lived at Jamestown, NY in 1966 and Imogene Wells Mitchell
who died at age one.  2) to C. Hockridge who had two children.  Constance Ann
Mitchell who married Robert R. Cowan and had sons Jeffery, Douglas & Bruce.
David Hockridge Mitchell who married Katherine Erickson of Helena, MT and
had, at least, a daughter Roberta Kay, b. 8-3-1965 at Indio, CA.

6443. Gerald Dewitt Carpenter

Number 1021-6 in the Timothy Carpenter book.
Gerald, commonly referred to as "JERRY", moved to CA with his mother in
1905.  At age 13, he left school and by age 15 was a well-qualified telegraph
operator.  He worked for Western Union in railroading, as a telegraph operator
and as a station master.  In 1908, he became one of the first wireless
operators handling both ship and shore stations.  He made ship runs to the
Orient and to South America.  He later transfered his interest to photography,
specializing in portraiture.  He entered the movie business as publicity
photograher and camera man for American Film Company at Santa Barbara, CA.  In
1917, he was taken service as a wireless operator instructor for the U.S. Army
Signal Corps.  During the years he continued his education, entered the banking
field, and remained for 40 years, becoming Vice President and Comptroller of
Citizens National Bank in Santa Barbara.  It had assets in excess of one
hundred million dollars (1940s).  His advocation was mountain climbing.

Amy Leona Swan

Amy was the daughter of Charles L. Swan of CT and Leona Harmon of
Oregon.  A 12 by 24 inch bronze plate marks Amy's gravesite at the Santa
Barbara Cemetery.  She is interred at west 1/2, Lot 24, Ridge Section.


Evelyn Anderson Grant

Evelyn was the daughter of Charles William and Ethelyn (Means) Grant.

The farm directory of 1918 states Claude owned and operated the 55-acre Indian
Springs Poultry Stock Farm in Harmony Twp.  The gravestones of Claude and Mary
were in excellent condition in 1966.

Mary's gravestone gives her middle initial as "H"; another record gave her
name as Mary Faust.

Clement and his wife Lenna, who had no children, were residing in Jamestown, NY
in 1975.  Interrment to be in Lot 153, Pioneer Cemetery.

6450. Maud May Carpenter

Number 1028-6 in the Timothy Carpenter book.
Buried in the Samuel Green plot.
Some old records record her name as Maude Mary and also gives her birthdate as
1883, as is inscribed on her gravestone.  One old indicated there had been six
children.  George and Maude were married by the Rev. DeWitt Carpenter in the
old Humphrey house on South Street, Jamestown.  Family gravestones were in
excellent condition in 1966.

OBITUARY.  Battle Creek Enquirer and News, Battle Creek, MI, 28 May 1972. George I. Burt Sr.  Services for George I. Burt Sr., 91, of 547 Surby Ave., who died Saturday at Kimball Medical Care Facility, where he had been a patient for one month, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Royal Funeral Home Chapel.  A member of the North Avenue Church of God, Burt had been an employee of A.B. Stove , First Baptist Church and various construction firms.  He had been an area resident for approximately 50 years.  Surviving are sons, Garnet Burt of 377 Emmett St., Guy Burt of 227 LaGrange Ave., Clellan Burt of 368 E. Michigan Ave., George Burt Jr. of 126 Blueberry Lane, Bill Burt of 12200 Six Mile Rd., Bob Burt of 547 Surby Ave., and Jack Burt of 935 Iroquois Ave.,
daughters, Mrs. Carmen Clemens of 439 N. 24th St. and Mrs. Marvin (Iva Belle) Eakins of 26 Mason St.; a brother, Fred C. Burt of Sherman, 29 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.

Dunham, Justice of the Peace; witnesses: E. Green and Zilpha Green, both of Sherman.  Neither had a previous marriage.

In 1925 Mrs. George Burt was of Battle Creek according to her mother's obituary.  In 1926 Battle Creek City Directory, Willard Library, Battle Creek. Burt, George (Edith), trucker, A-B Stove , home 33 Spring St. In 1944 Edith Green Burt was of 312 South Avenue, Battle Creek, according to her sister's, Luella Green Wart's, obituary.  In 1945 she was living at 210 Central Street according to the Battle Creek City Directory.

OBITUARY.  Battle Creek Enquirer and News, Battle Creek, MI, 19 Jun 1963. Mrs. George I. Burt.  Mrs. Edith A. Burt, 75, of 338 South Ave., died this morning in a Battle Creek hospital.  She had been ill for the past year and a half.  She was born in Sherman, the daughter of Nathan and Mina Green.  She married George I. Burt on Sept. 16, 1903.  They moved to Battle Creek about 1923.  Mrs. Burt was a member of the North Avenue Church of God for 33 years. Surviving besides her husband are two daughters, Mrs. Carmen Clemens of 443 N. 24th St., and Mrs. Iva Belle Doubledee of 338 South Ave., seven sons, George Jr. of the South Ave. address, Garnet of 17 Oakhill Drive, Guy of 227 LaGrange Ave., Theodore of 50 Newark St., William and Robert of Route 2, and John of 207 Foster Ave.; a brother, Louis Green of 91 S. Mason Ave.; 24 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.  Three children died in infancy.

In Oct 1942 Iva Belle Perry and Anthony S. Perry, both of Battle Creek, were witnesses at the wedding of George Burt and Martha L. LaRose.  Was Iva Belle Perry the former Iva Belle Burt, sister of the groom, and was she married to Perry prior to a marriage to Eakins?  In 1963 Iva Belle Doubledee of 338 South Avenue, Battle Creek, was a surviving daughter according to her mother's obituary.  In 1972 Mrs. Marvin (Iva Belle) Eakins was of 96 Mason St., Battle Creek, according to her father's obituary.  In 1983 Mrs. Marvin (Iva Belle) Eakins was of Battle Creek in her brothers', Garnet's and George's, obituaries.  In 1985 Iva Eakins was of Battle Creek according to her brother's, Clellen's, obituary.  In 1988 Ivabelle Eakins was of Battle Creek according to her brother's, Bill's, obituary.  In 1993 Iva B. Eakins was of Battle Creek in her sister's, Carmen's, obituary.
