Subject: Richard W. Carpenter....
Oh, my gosh! It hasn’t been NINE years!!! I was flabbergasted!!
First things first: We would be interested in the Y DNA project. Do you have details and costs? I think the DNA would help us know whether Ernest is from the Providence line [your suggestion] or the Rehoboth line [my suggestion]. It doesn’t matter to him as he just wants to find kin.
Second: Ernest went online and downloaded “The Carpenter Family in America” by Daniel H. Carpenter. Our old eyes are now bugged out from reading. We did find the Richard W. Carpenter # 351, with son Benjamin on pg. 128. The book lists Benjamin #121 children of his will. Mary Ferguson #350
Richard W. #351
Samuel #352
Benjamin #353
Henry #354
Elizabeth #355
Prudence #356My question is…. Are the children listed in birth order? If so, then Richard #351 was born before brother Benjamin # 353 who was born November 1755. I attached the birth date of our Richard W. that is in his Bible [not in our possession] which is 1786. So I am not so sure these are the same Richard W. Carpenter but coincidence. We are still searching.
Third: We found more documentation in Ohio about our Richard. A RAOGK volunteer has been helping us. She found his will, his wife’s remarriage, his son Theodore’s guardianship papers and Theodore & wife’s grave ALL in Geauga & Lake Counties Ohio. Richard’s will did not state a Benjamin as a son-so either he was deceased before 1821; there was a falling out between father and son; or they are not related. NOW here is the kicker-somewhere in our messy boxes of handwritten letters there is a faint elusive referral about a son and previous marriage of Richard. We still can’t seem to find it. Our Richard married Reliance in 1811 place unknown to us. His third child Theodore was born 1815 in Plymouth MA. Theodore’s sister Meribah b. 1813 died in 1899 Geauga Co. OH. So our next search is for her death cert. to document where she was born. We so have more info than 9 years ago and will send what we have been able to document at a later date. We are getting ready to take a vacation to see our son who is in the Navy and stationed in MD. We have not seen our grandbabies in almost a year. So be patient with us.
Of Carpenter roots,
Jo
[Okay, so I’m a graft!]
Thanks for all your research on the Carpenter’s, John
Listed in the Carpenter Memorial as a son, but not in Ernest Carpenter's records.
