Family on page 229 & 230. Soon after his first marriage he moved to Oakland
county, MI (sometime in 1831), onto section 24 where he died.  After his second
marriage in 1856 he took a trip east to visit his cousins at Oyster Bay, Glen
Cove, et cetera.

Family on page 229.  Charles was married twice, but only two children are known
and no spouse names.  In 1824, his father took up a large quanity of goverment
land in Oakland county, MI.  Charles with his brothers Thomas J., Ezra and
Charles's Uncle Daniel P. settled in Oakland county, MI between 1831 and 1837.
They were some of the first settlers in that section of MI.

1452. Charles Ketcham Carpenter

Number 631 in the Carpenter Family in America, 1901 book.
Family on page 231 & 232.
He moved to Oakland county, MI in 1827 with his father.  In 1849 he married.
He had his farm at Orion, Oakland county, MI.  In 1858 he was elected a member
of the Legislature, and during the Civil War he was an active Union man.  He
was chairman and treasurer of the War Association, having charge of the funds
contributed in his district toward war expenses.
In 1874 he was nominated for Govenor on the Prohibition ticket, and in 1876
received the same honor from the Greenback party, but not being in sympathy
with the principals of that party he declined the nomination. He was prominent
in the development of the railroad and insurance interests in his part of the
state, and was also the author of articleson "Practical Farm Life" which were
published in the Detroit Free Press over the signiture of "An Oakland County
Farmer."  An excellent sketch of his life appeared in "Appleton's Cyclopedia of
American Biography," 1887 issue.  When he died he was noted as a good man and
just.  Picture bewteen page 232 & 233.

member of the (then) well known firm of Coster & Carpenter.  He resided in New
York City until 1844, when he retired from business and went to Canton, NY.
There he had a large tract of land where he died about 1867.

a large force of colored men near Montgomery, AL.
