Hi John,
In Aug one Sandra Yorkell-Parker and yourself had a short memo between you regarding my interest in my CARPENTER family research. So I am entering into that memo and introducing myself and my family to you. I am Evelyn Carpenter Small-Wellman and live in Spokane Wa on the east side of Washington state where we have mountains and lakes, snow in the winter and drier, hotter summers than Seattle area.
My CARPENTER trail hits a brick wall at the birth of our (1) Civil War Vet in 1827 Orange Co NY (possibly Cornwall). (2)Born SAMUEL TOWNSEND CARPENTER to (4)Lucy(6) MARIA DENNISTON and ? CARPENTER. He had a younger sister (5)ANN ELIZA CARPENTER who married JAMES S CAMPBELL, moved to Milwaukee WI and owned a 'yankee notions' store (quote). They had no children and I don't know where they were buried.
The next primary document I have on (4)SAMUEL TOWNSEND is his marriage in 1853 St Joseph MO(3) to (4) PHOEBE ELLEN(DER) BROWN (born in Greenville TN).
I have more info, but so I'm not boring you by too much at first I'll just site sources now
1. National Archives military records (100 pgs)
2. Tombstone in Doniphan Co KS
3. Marriage certificate
4. Land records and deeds
5. Federal and state of MO census records
6. Will of MARIA's second husband BENJAMIN MEAD of Blooming Grove, NY
7. Buchanan CO MO History
If you are interested and would like some more info please respond at your convenience
Sincerely Evelyn
