OBITUARY of CORNELIUS EARNESTUS CARPENTER
Cornelius Earnestus Carpenter was born August 5, 1875,in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, the fifth of six children and departed this life on June 20, 1959. One sister and four brothers all preceded him in death. At the age of 5 years he moved with his parents to Kansas.
He was married April 13, 1898, in Belleville, Kansas, to Francis Edith Wilmot. The couple moved to Oklahoma in 1900 and homesteaded in western Oklahoma in 1902 where they lived until moving to Wilder, Idaho in 1932.
Seven sons and one daughter were born to this union all of whom are still living. On April 13, 1959, Mr. & Mrs. Carpenter celebrated their 61st wedding Annicersary.
In 1909 Mr. Carpenter professed Jesus Christ as his own personal Lord and Saviour. He was baptized in 1910 and joined the Missionary Baptist Church. He taught a Sunday School class for a number of years. One of his favorite pasttimes in his earlier years was singing gospel songs. Among the songs he loved was:
"What a Friend we have in Jesus
All our sins and griefs to bear,
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer."
For the last ten years of his life Mr. Carpenter was pretty well confined to his home but found a genuine source of spiritual strength in the weekly broadcast of "The Old Fashion Revival Hour."
Survivors besides his devoted wife include seven sons, Charles E., Leslie A., Harold W., and Randall S. Carpenter all of Wilder; Clifford R. of Clatskanie, Oregon, Harry F., Caldwell, Idaho and Rex B. Carpenter of Vale, Oregon; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Graber of Wilder, and 26 Grandchildren and 34 great Grandchildren. In addition to these a host of other relatives and friends survive to mourn his passing.
