On Nov 1, 1879 The "Fort Griffin Echo" (News Paper) reported that Nick Eaton and J B Carpenter drove two hundred twenty six head of fat beeves to Fort Worth that week to market.
From the First 100 years of Jones Co., TX
Census research indicates this may have been Jefferson B Carpenter born about 1845 in Texas and the son of Thomas and Charolette Maria Carpenter. It also appears he was a Confederate Veteran, enlisting in Company A of the 6th Infantry Regiment of Texas in April 1865.
