Bio:
Former Louisiana State Senator William T. "Bill" Carpenter, born William Thomas Carpenter on January 22, 1913. He was the son of the late Fred Carpenter, Sr, former sheriff of Morehouse Parish, and Georgia Louise Lefford Carpenter, a former school teacher.
Bill married Elsie Marie Doss. They had three children. William Jr, Philip Benson and Rosemary Carpenter White.
He was preceded in death by his son, William Thomas Carpenter, Jr.
Mr. Carpenter was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church of Bastrop. He also served as a member of the Board of Directors of Bastrop National Bank, past president and board member of Morehouse Country Club, member of Louisiana Cattleman's Association, among others. During his life he was a farmer, cattleman, owner of a Lincoln- Mercury dealership, John Deere dealership, home construction company, Bastrop Livestock Auction, and produced a syndicated television series and movie about his experiences as a worldwide big game hunter and adventurer.
He was a friend, adviser, and the original sponser of professional golfer Dr. Gil Morgan, an association that continued more than thirty years until Mr. Carpenter's death.He was an avid golfer and enjoyed many years of playing the game in which he shot his age several times and had 5 hole-in-ones, two of which were at 82 and 83 years of age.

Graveside services for Mrs. Elsie Marie Doss Carpenter, age 91, of Bastrop, Louisiana will be held 3 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2007 at Christ Church Cemetery with Rev. Mark Benge, Sr. officiating.
The family will receive friends at Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop Friday afternoon from 1 p.m. till 2:30 p.m.
Mrs Carpenter, a homemaker, was born January 6, 1916 in Ashley County Arkansas and passed away July 4, 2007 at Oak Woods Home for the Elderly in Mer Rouge, Louisiana. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bastrop. Talented and beautiful, she had a kind and generous spirit. She was a loyal friend and was devoted to her family. Her words of encouragement were always a blessing. Those who knew and loved her will miss her humor and the gracious way she embraced life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas Carpenter, Sr., son, William Thomas Carpenter, Jr., parents, Robert Jasper Doss and Leola Bell Snead Doss, four sisters, and two brothers.
She is survived by a son, Phillip Benson Carpenter of Bastrop, a daughter Rosemary Carpenter White and husband Bob of Mer Rouge, grandsons William Thomas Carpenter, III and wife Karen of Palmer, Alaska; Philip Scott Carpenter of San Francisco, California; Robert Seth White and wife Kim of Mer Rouge, granddaughter Allison White of Lafayette, Louisiana, and great grandchildren Gabe White, Anna Grace White, and Ethan Carpenter.
