Battle Creek, father: Earl Bauer, mother: Marguerite Lucas, occupation: Painter/lineman; and Jean Elaine Hillis, age 16, residing in Charlotte, b. Spring Arbor, MI, father: Edward R. OBITUARY.  Battle Creek Enquirer, Saturday, Sept. 17, 1949, p. 1. Richard Bauer Killed in Crash.  Three Others Hurt in Accident on Gun Lake Road. Richard Dale Bauer, 23, of Route 5, Battle Creek, was killed last night and three other men injured when a speeding car went out of control on a curve and struck several trees on the Gun Lake Road.  Injured are James Shook, 28, of Route 2, Plainwell, critically injured; Arthur L. Roberts, 18, of Otsego, the driver of the car, seriously hurt; and Russell Whitney, 22, of Potterville, who suffered lesser injuries.  The four men, employees of the Industrial Maintenance  of Lansing were on their way home from work at Muskegon.  The car failed to make the Fox farm curve, 12 miles west of Hastings, skidded 60-feet before leaving the road, hit and uprooted an eight-inch maple tree, skidded 12 feet farther and careened off another tree and bounded 15 feet more before coming to a rest.  All the men were thrown free of the wreck.  The car, ownedby Mrs. Herman Sibberason of Otsego, the sister of Mr. Roberts, was demolished.  Mrs. Harvey Myers of Hastings, driving by discovered the wreck.  She notified Sheriff Leon Doster of Hastings, and three ambulances were dispatched to the scene.  The time of the accident was placed at about 9:35 p.m.  Mr. Bauer was born in Battle Creek on June 8, 1926, the son of Earl and Marguerite Bauer.  He attended Battle Creek High School up to the 10th grade and set pins at Michigan Recreation before enlisting in the Army in June, 1944.  For the last three years he was an employee of the Industrial Maintenance  of Lansing.  Besides his wife, Jeane, of Charlotte whom he married in Charlotte on Sept. 4, 1946, he is survived by a son, David Dale Bauer of Charlotte; his father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Bauer of Route 5, Battle Creek; his mother, Mrs. Marguerite Zackery of Berrien Springs; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bauer of East Leroy; a grandmother, Mrs. Florence Lucas of Union City; and three sisters, Virginia, Shirley and Joyce Bauer, all of Route 5, Battle Creek.  Funeral services will be held at the Royal Funeral home at 11 a.m. Monday, the Rev. Don L.   DeCoursey officiating.  He will be buried at the Burr Oak Cem., Athens.

OBITUARY.  Battle Creek Enquirer and News, Sunday, July 24, 1983, p 2B. Dowling - John F. Dowling, 47, of Clear Lake, died Friday in Kalamazoo's Bronson Hospital, where he had been a patient two weeks. He was born in Augusta and lived in the area all his life.  Dowling worked for 23 years for Globe Construction of Kalamazoo, where he was a paving machine operator, and was a member of Operators Engineers Local 324.  Surviving are his wife, the former Joan Douglas; a son, John D. Dowling of Delton; a stepdaughter, Mary E. Wills; brothers, George E. of Delton and Donald E. of Kalamzoo; and sisters, Mrs. Cleo (Guyetta) Prescott of Battle Creek, Mrs. Donald (Edna) Hite of Augusta, Mrs. William (Alice) Coleman of Galesburg, and Mrs. Lynn (Betty) Ferguson of Niles.  Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Schlueter Chapel, Farley-Estes Funeral Home, Augusta. Memorials may be made to the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Hastings.  Burial Augusta Cem..
