In further research my mother tells me that:
Richard Marion died around 1944, about 2 years after they were married in 1942. in California
his wife, Della Mae, had passed away about a year or two before their marriage (1940-41), because dad was helping pay off funeral expenses.

I intend to cultivate my nephew's (Daniel Joseph "DJ" Carpenter), assistance to send in DNA. He lives now in San Diego. I am letting him know about this project and the many branches of Carpenters across the nation. I have been saving to cover the DNA test... I can go for the most extensive, but reading the project website I clicked onto info about the tests and they ranged for (something like) $99-$299. Which should I pick? Also I see there's a donation form "in memory" of which I plan to use in the name of my brother, David Bruce Carpenter.
