Lillie Loraine was sometimes called "Ranny." She was of Athens in 1933 in her mother's obituary.
OBITUARY. Battle Creek Enquirer and News, Monday, Mar 28, 1949. Athens - Mrs. Loraine Martin, 65, widow of Bert Martin, died at 3:30 a.m. Monday at Leila Hospital in Battle Creek, following a stroke. She was born March 31, 1884, in Athens Twp., a daughter of Abner and Agnes (Henry) Carpenter, and resided on a farm one mile southwest of East Leroy at the time of her death. The husband, Bert, died Aug. 8, 1948. Surviving are two sons, Olen of East Leroy and Lester of Battle Creek, and a sister, Mrs. Charles Bauer of Athens. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday from the Spencer Funeral Home in Athens with the Rev. Don DeCoursey of Battle Creek officiating. Burial will be in Burr Oak Cem., Athens.
Census records showed Lillie Loraine was born in 1883. Her obituary said she was born in 1884.

Martin, 65, Athens Twp. farmer, died at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Leila Hospital in Battle Creek where he had been a patient for two weeks. OBITUARY. Athens Times, Thursday, January 25, 1962. Edward F. Lafler, 79, a farmer living on Route 1, Fulton, passed away Sunday afternoon at his home after an illness of two years. He had been seriously ill for three months. Mr. Lafler was born in Fulton, son of Frank and Lucinda (Burch) Lafler, and lived in the Fulton vicinity all his life. He was married Dec. 5, 1906, in Factoryville to Jennie Carpenter. She died January 15, 1944. Mr. Lafler was a member of the First Pilgrim Holiness Church of Battle Creek. Surviving are a son, Clarence of near Fulton; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services were held from the Spencer Funeral Home in Athens on Thursday afternoon with the Rev. Don F. Price officiating. Interment South Fulton Cem.. (Cem. is located in Sec. 22, Waukeshma Twp., Fulton, MI, on east side of 42nd Street. Edward's marker says 1883-1962.)

Some information on this family sent to this typist, March 1994 from Phyllis Griffis Dembrouski, of Irons, Mich 49644. We have also received a letter from Thelma, daughter, age 85, living in Casco, Wis. We hope to receive more information on this line from her.
Thelma, daughter of William T. Griffis sent (in 1994) his birthday as 9 June 1879 so we will use this in this record rather than the Sep 1877/1878 that we had previously. The death date was also different. 2 Dec 1966 is what we had previously, but she gave 30 Aug 1966 which will be used in this record. As his daughter, she probably knows more accurately the exact dates.

William T. Griffis was probably named after his father and paternal grandfather--if so, his full name was William Thomas Griffis.
Buried in LOT 129 in the addition. Edna A. 1884-1948 OSSW= (On same stone with) William T. 1878-1966. OSSW= (On same stone with) William T. in the North Weare Cem. Weare Twp. Oceana, Mich. Their graves are at the back on the left side. Personal visit Apr 1994.
Her father's name was given as Charles at her wedding. Thema, her daughter gave her father as Marion N. Green which will be used in this record.
