OBITUARY.  Battle Creek Enquirer and News, Monday, May 8, 1944, p. 2.  Mrs. Luella Wart, 67, of Emmett Twp., widow of Ernest Wart, died at a local hospital at 8:40 a.m. Sunday following a five-week illness of a
heart ailment.  She was born in Wakeshma Twp., Kalamazoo County, Nov. 18, 1876, a daughter of Nathan and Mina Green.  She came to Battle Creek in 1919 from Sherman, Wexford County and has lived here since
with the exception of eight years which were spent on a farm near Athens.  She was a member of Rebekah Lodge of Sherman.   Surviving are three daughters, Miss Edris Wart of Emmett Township; Mrs. Glennie Green of East Jordan; Mrs. Mildred Ahlberg of Pennfield Twp.; two sons, Pvt. Claude Wart in the Army at Seattle, Wash.,
and Gordon Wart of Emmett Twp.; eight grandchildren; three brothers, John Green of Pennfield Twp., Lewis Green of East Roosevelt and Ivan Green of 91 Cherry; two sisters, Mrs. Edith Burt of 312 South Avenue, and Mrs. Isabelle Sult of 1 Avenue B.  Her husband died last August.

Ernest L. Wart

OBITUARY.  Battle Creek Enquirer and Evening News, Monday, August 30, 1943, p. 2.  Ernest Wart, 70, died at 11 p.m. Sunday at his farm home in Emmett Twp. following a two-year illness.  He was born Aug. 8, 1872, in Otsego County, New York, the son of Peter and Jannet (Stowell) Wart and came to Michigan when he was 12 years old.  The family settled near Sherman in Wexford County. Twenty-three years ago he moved to Battle Creek and has lived in and near Battle Creek since then with exception of eight years spent on a farm four and a half miles northwest of Athens.  Survivors are the widow, Luella; two sons, Pvt. Claude Wart in the army at Seattle, Wash., and Gordon Wart of 202 Graves Avenue; three daughters, Miss Edris Wart, at home, Mrs. Glennie Green of East Jordan, and Mrs. Mildred Ahlberg of Pennfield Twp.; eight grandchildren; a brother, Lawrence Wart of Seattle, Wash.; three sisters, Mrs. Carrie O'Donnell of Alma, Mrs. Cora Williams of Grand Rapids, and Mrs. Zilpha Bugbee of Olivet, and several nieces and nephews.

Perhaps she died before the 1910 census was taken as the census says her mother had 5 children, 3 alive.

In 1943 Edris Wart was living with her parents in Battle Creek according to her father's obituary.  In 1986 Edris Mead was of Battle Creek in her brother's, Claud's, obituary.

OBITUARY.  Battle Creek Enquirer and News, Thursday, Mar 17, 1988, p. 4A. Edris L. (Wart) Mead, 87, of Battle Creek, died Tuesday at Leila Hospital, where she had been a patient one day.  She was born in Sherman and came to Battle Creek in 1918.  She had worked for five years at the old Postum factory for F.W. Woolworth downtown for 10 years and then for United Steel & Wire  for 23 years, retiring in 1962.  She enjoyed crocheting, flower gardening and camping.  Surviving are her husband, Robert Mead; sisters, Glennie Green of
East Jordan and Mildred Ahlberg of Battle Creek; and a brother, Gordon Wart of Battle Creek. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Royal Funeral Home.

In 1943 Mrs. Glennie Green was of East Jordan according to her father's obituary.  In 1949 Ronald Eugene Green of East Jordan was a witness at the marriage of James R. Ahlberg and Bonnie Jean Philo.  Perhaps Ronald Eugene
Green is Glennie's son.  In 1986 and 1990 Glennie was of East Jordon in her brothers', Claud's and Gordon's,
obituaries.

OBITUARY.  Battle Creek Enquirer and News, Wednesday, April 22, 1964, sec. 2, p. 2.  Lewis W. Green, 83, of 91 S. Mason Ave., died today in the Thornapple Valley Home and Medical Facility near Hastings following a long illness.  Born in Leonidas Twp., St. Joseph , Sept. 17, 1880, he was the son of Nathan and Elmina (Wilson) Green.  He first came to Battle Creek in 1917 and was a Post employee 13 years, then worked 20 years as a roofer for the Sherriff-Goslin   Later he was employed by the Clark Equipment , retiring in 1952.  He was married in 1904 at Sherman, to Mae Howe, who died here June 4, 1959.  His survivors include two daughters, Mrs. John (Audrey) Brown of the Mason Avenue address and Mrs. Loren (Lila) Samis of Hastings, 19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Kitty Mae Howe

OBITUARY.  Battle Creek Enquirer and News, Friday, June 5, 1959, p. 26.  Mrs. Kitty Mae Green, 76, of Assyria Twp., died yesterday at a local hospital. She was born Oct. 13, 1882, in Edmore, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Howe. On Dec. 31, 1900, she was married to Lewis W. Green, who survives.  Other survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Lorn (Lilia) Samis of Marquette, MI, and Mrs. John (Audrey) Brown of 91 S. Mason Ave.; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.  Mr. and Mrs. Green came to Battle Creek in 1918 and made their home at 414 E. Roosevelt Ave. before moving to Assyria Twp. last September.

April 11, 1998, visit to Bedford Cem..  The marker reads, "Kitty M. Green, 1882-1959."  There is no marker for Lewis Green.  Lewis' death record indicates he was buried in Bedford Cem. 24 April 1964.

OBITUARY.  Battle Creek Enquirer and News, Tuesday, October 10, 1944.  Ivan E. (Sam) Green, 59, of 91 Cherry, died of a heart attack at his home at 2:45 p.m. Monday.  Mr. Green had had a previous attack last Wednesday and was in bed on his physician's orders when the fatal attack occurred.  He was born Sept. 17, 1885, at Sherman, Mich., the son of Nathan and Elmina (Wilson) Green.  He came to Battle Creek 25 years ago and worked as a furnace installer and repairman. For the last two years he was employed by E. L. Sult & Son.  He is survived by two brothers, John and Lewis Green of 221 East Roosevelt, and two sisters, Mrs. Edith Burt of 312 South Avenue and Mrs. E. L. Sult of 1 Avenue B. He was a member of Manton Lodge, No. 357, IOOF, of Manton, Mich.  Funeral services will be held Thursday at Mesick, Mich.

Died 20 Oct 1910 at Sherman, Doris Elmira Green, age 1y2m8d, father: Samuel Eugene Green; mother: Zypha Ward, cause: congestion of lungs.  Doris' death is also recorded on vol. 2, p 18, #4533.  It lists her father as Ivan Eugene Green and her age as 2y2m9d.  We believe the first recording is correct due to her age listed on the 1910 census.

Burt, 75, of 338 South Ave., died this morning in a Battle Creek hospital.  She had been ill for the past year and a half.  She was born in Sherman, the daughter of Nathan and Mina Green.  She married George I. Burt on Sept. 16, 1903.  They moved to Battle Creek about 1923.  Mrs. Burt was a member of the North Avenue Church of God for 33 years. Surviving besides her husband are two daughters, Mrs. Carmen Clemens of 443 N. 24th St., and Mrs. Iva Belle Doubledee of 338 South Ave., seven sons, George Jr. of the South Ave. address, Garnet of 17 Oakhill Drive, Guy of 227 LaGrange Ave., Theodore of 50 Newark St., William and Robert of Route 2, and John of 207 Foster Ave.; a brother, Louis Green of 91 S. Burt Sr., 91, of 547 Surby Ave., who died Saturday at Kimball Medical Care Facility, where he had been a patient for one month, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Royal Funeral Home Chapel.  A member of the North Avenue Church of God, Burt had been an employee of A.B. Sult & Sons Heating , died at 11:10 p.m. yesterday in a local hospital.  He had been in failing health for eight years and seriously ill for three weeks.  Mr. Sult made his home at Graham Lake in Leroy Twp..  He was born Sept. 8, 1887, in Fulton County, Indiana, the son of George W. and Emma (Frye) Sult.  He and Isabelle C. Green were married Oct. 29, 1910, at Sherman in Wexford County.  Mr. and Mrs. Sult came to Battle Creek some 38 years ago from Wexford County.  He sold his heating business 10 years ago.  He is survived by his wife; two daughters. Mrs. George (Letha) Lessese of Cheverly, Md., and Mrs. William (Evelyn) Hyde of Baltimore, Md.; two sons, Cleon L. and Kenneth E., both of Route 8, eight grandchildren; four brothers, Otto of 419 W. OBITUARY.  The Athens Times, Thursday June 28, 1917.  Mrs. Frank Barrett Dies Suddenly.  Was Formerly Viola Swartz and Resided West of Town.  Mrs. Frank Barrett, living four miles northeast of Marshall, passed away early Saturday morning and the remains were brought here Monday for burial, the funeral being held at the Reformed Church with Dr. Isenberg as the officiating minister.  Mrs. Barrett had been suffering with high blood pressure but was not thought to be in any immediate danger and retired Friday night in her usual health. Early in the morning Mr. Barrett was awakened by a peculiar gurgling sound.  He lifted her head and she died in his arms.  Viola Armida Swartz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Swartz, was born March 3, 1876, and departed this life on June 23, 1917, aged 41 years, 3 months and 20 days.  She was united in marriage September 14, 1895, to James Franklin Barrett, and to them was born one son, who with her husband, father, mother, one brother, one sister and a host of friends and other relatives are left to mourn her death.  She was a valued member of the Carverville Ladies' Aid Society and Curtis Club, community organizations of her home neighborhood, and was ever found ready and efficient in time of need. We shall meet, but we shall miss her, There will be one vacant chair; We shall linger to caress her While we breathe our evening prayer.

East Leroy - Mrs. Eula Swartz, 82, of Route 1, East Leroy, widow of Ernest Swartz, died at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Battle Creek Monday afternoon. She was born in East Port, MI, daughter of John and Angie (Evans) McPherson.  She was married on Christmas Day, 1899, to Mr. Swartz, who died in 1946. Mrs. Swartz was a member of Sonoma Methodist Church, the church's birthday club, and also the church's WSCS.  She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Harold (Ella) Haven of Route 2, Battle Creek, Mrs. Clyde (Pearl) Lawder of Pensacola, FL, Mrs. Carl (Vera) Harleston of East Leroy and Mrs. Clarence (Marion) Eckler of 184 Lathrop Ave., Battle Creek; a son, Earl Swartz of East Leroy; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.


3418. Angie Ella Swartz

In 1946 Mrs. Harold (Ella) Haven was of Battle Creek according to her father's obituary.  In 1961 Ella was of Battle Creek according to her mother's obituary.

ANNIVERSARY.  Battle Creek Enquirer, Wed., Oct. 3, 1984. p. 6A.  Harold and Ella Haven of 11080 8-Mile Road will observe their 60th wedding anniversary at open house from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) at B Drive North and Beadle Lake Road.  Hosting the open house will be friends and members of the church.  Haven and the former Ella Swartz were married Oct. 4, 1924.  They first lived on Hillcrest Ct. in Urbandale and later on Kingman Avenue before moving in 1951 to their present home. Haven retired in 1969 from the Post Division of General Foods Corp.  They have been active members of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) since their youth. They have many fond memories of traveling "just anywhere way out west."  They have spent a number of winters in warmer climates and have Tucson, Ariz. to be their favorite spot.

In 1995 Angie "Ella" Haven, wife of Harold Glen Haven, survived according to Harold's obituary.

February 24, 1998.  Elma Carpenter visited with Ella, age 97, at her apartment in Battle Creek. Ella gave us much information about her sisters' and aunts' families.  Ella and Harold had no children.

Harold Glen Haven, 90, of Battle Creek died Wednesday, March 8, 1995, in Battle Creek Health System/Community Site.  He was born April 12, 1904, in Eckford Twp. to Harry R. and Pearl (Hornbeck) Haven and was an area resident most of his life.  He and his wife wintered in Tucson, Ariz., for 14 years before wintering in southern Texas for four years.  He was employed at Post Cereals for 46 years before retiring in 1969.  He was a member of First Christian Church where he served as a deacon and an elder and was involved in the Men's Fellowship.  He was a member of the Post 25-year Club.  He enjoyed reading and traveling.  He married Angie "Ella" Swartz on Oct. 4, 1924, in Battle Creek. She survives.  Services 1:30 Friday at Richard A. Henry FuneralHome.  Burial: Burr Oak Cem., Athens.

NEWSPAPER ARTICLE. The Athens Times, April 15, 1920.  Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Williams and family left here this morning for Battle Creek, enroute to Alberta where they have bought a ranch.  Mrs. Williams' parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Swartz, took them to Battle Creek.

NEWSPAPER ARTICLE.  The Athens Times, Thursday, May 6, 1920.  Like Looks of Canada.  Mrs. Lew Williams writes her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Swartz, of the arrival of the family at their new home in Bassano, Alberta, on the 21st inst., having left here on the 15th, going by way of Detroit, London and Winnepeg. They report a very pleasant trip and enjoyed the scenery along Lake Superior. They reached Alberta in the rainy season and Mrs. Williams says that one can easily pick up about ten acres of prairie soil on one's feet when it is wet. They are much impressed with the appearance of the country.

In 1946 at the time of her brother's, Ernest Swartz', death, Mrs. L. B. Williams was of Los Angeles, CA.

Reah O. Williams moved to Alberta, Canada, with her parents in May 1920 according to The Athens Times, Athens, MI.  In February 1998 Gertie's aunt, Ella Haven, age 97, of Battle Creek, said Gertie and her husband had two girls.

In February 1938 Stella way living in Traverse City, MI, according to her mother's obituary.  In July 1967 Stella was living in Daytona Beach, FL according to her brother's, William's, obituary.

The Athens Times, May 17, 1912.  William A. Wilson, the blacksmith and wheelwright, has bought the Boyd A. Miller house on Burr Oak Street now occupied by O. J. Fry.

The Athens Times, Thursday, September 21, 1916.  Moved to Coldwater.  Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Wilson are moving to Coldwater this week where the former had a good position in an automobile garage.  It is with sincere regret that Athens people witness their removal from the community in which both have spent their lives and where both have hosts of friends.  Mr. Wilson had for a number of years conducted a garage and general repair shop in Athens and at the time he left was a member of the village council and fire department and secretary of the Athens Improvement Club.  Mrs. Wilson was a very successful teacher in the local schools for several years and both were prominent in the social affairs of the town, and will be much missed.  However, they have the assurance of the best wishes of many, many friends in whatever they may undertake in the future.

The Athens Times, Thursday, December 18, 1919.  Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Wilson are pleasantly located in Miami, FL, where the former had no trouble in securing a job in one of the big garages of the city.  Like all other places, especially where there are many tourists, rents are exorbitant.

The Athens Times, May 13, 1920.  Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Wilson who have been spending the winter in Miami, Florida, arrived in Battle Creek Friday night.

Wilson, former proprietor of a garage here, but who has been employed at Battle Creek garages for a number of years past, is installing his equipment and preparing to re-open a garage in his building at the corner of Burr Oak Street and Avenue A.

OBITUARY.  The Athens Times.  Thursday, July 6, 1967.  William A. Wilson, 82, of 233 North Avenue A, whose lifetime and work spanned the transition from horse and buggies to four-barrell carburetion and who was a civic leader of the village for many years, passed away at 6 a.m. Sunday in a Battle Creek hospital.  He had been a patient there for two weeks.  Mr. Wilson was born October 22, 1884, in Athens, son of Louis and Inez (Henry) Wilson.  He grew up in the village and in 1905 opened a blacksmith shop here.  Seven years later, he converted it to a general garage to serve the growing demand for auto repair, and operated the garage until his retirement in 1955.  His wife, Wilma, died February 23, 1965.  Mr. Wilson held several village offices and contributed the first gift of land for what is now known as John Wilson Park, named for his son, who was a serviceman in World War II.  He was a charter member and a founder of the Athens Community Association.  Mr. Wilson, an active member of Masonry, was a life member of Athens Lodge No. 220, F&AM, a life member of Chapter No. 59, Order of Eastern Star, a life member of Chapter No. 46, RAM, and a life member of the Council at Union City.  He is survived by a grandson, Douglas Wilson of Ashland, Nebraska; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Millie Laune of Ashland, Nebraska, and a sister, Mrs. Stella Ealy of Daytona Beach, FL.  Services were held on Tuesday afternoon from the Spencer Funeral Home with Masonic services and Dr. L. D. Funk officiating.  Interment Burr Oak Cem., Athens.  (This same obituary appeared in the Battle Creek Enqurer and News, Monday, July 3, 1967.)

Wilma Alma Waterman

OBITUARY.  The Athens Times, March 4, 1965.  Athens - Mrs. Wilma A. Wilson, 78, of 115 Avenue A South, Athens, former village and Twp. treasurer, who also was active in the Red Cross and the T.B. Association, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, at a Battle Creek hospital.  She had been in failing health for the past two months and seriously ill for one month.  She was born in Athens Twp., a daughter of William and Lenora (Reed) Waterman.  She was graduated from Athens High School in 1903, and taught school for about 14 years in her early life. She was married July 18, 1907, to William Wilson and in 1915 started a general garage here which they operated for about 40 years.  She served as village treasurer for about 20 years, and for the past 15 years had been the Twp. treasurer.  She was a member of the Congregational Church, the Ladies Guild of the church and the New Idea Club.  She was a life member of Naomi Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.  In addition to her husband, she is survived by a grandson, Douglas Wilson of Ashland, Neb.; three sisters, Mrs. Robert (Wyla) Attwood of Flint, Miss Elma Waterman of Pontiac and Miss Bernice Waterman of Washington, D.C., and two brothers, Reed of Grand Rapids and Roland of Grand Ledge.  Services were from Spencer Funeral Home on Friday afternoon with the Rev. Wm. F. Hastings officiating.  Interment Burr Oak Cem..

WEDDING.  The Athens Times, Friday, October 7, 1910.  Will Make Their Home in Mason. Miss Lorna Woodruff and Leo H. Harrison Married.  Wednesday evening for the second time within four months the home of Mr. and Mrs. F. G. Woodruff was the scene of a pretty home wedding.  This time their youngest and only remaining daughter, Miss Lorna, was united in marriage to Leo H. Harrison of Mason, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Harrison of this place.  Only a few of the nearest relatives and friends of the contracting parties were present at the ceremony which was performed by Rev. E. H. Harbridge of the Congregational Church. After the ceremony, and congratulations had been showered upon them, the merry company partook of refreshments.  The bride is one of the town's best known and most highly respected young ladies and a member of the class of '09 of the local high school.  The groom is also a graduate of the local schools and of the department of pharmacy of the U. of M. and now holds a responsible position with a well known drug firm at Mason, at which place the young people will be at home to their friends after October 20.  Their many friends here extend heartiest congratulations.  Mr. and Mrs. Harrison were the recipients of many beautiful gifts.  The out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Foote and daughter, Mrs. E. H. Coller and Miss Lela Foote of Battle Creek and Chas. Kellyof Flint.  Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Lewis of Jackson reached Battle Creek a few minutes too late to catch the 5 o'clock train and were not able to be present.

OBITUARY.  The Athens Times, Thursday, November 18, 1965.  Mr. Leo H. Harrison of Mason, Michigan, a retired druggist, son of Frank and Betty (Foote) Harrison of Athens, passed away on Friday, November 5th, 1965, following several years of poor health.  He was a graduate of Athens High School. Surviving are his wife, the former Laura Woodruff, two sons, Hubert H. and Don [Dale] W. of Mason, a daughter, Mrs. Harry (Doris) Graichen of Ypsilanti and eight grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday, November 8th at the Ball-Dunn Funeral Home in Mason.  Burial in Burr Oak Cem., Athens.

OBITUARY.  Feb. 26, 1936 (probably a Battle Creek newspaper).  Claude Alva Tiffany, son of Alva and Zingara Tiffany, was born September 13, 1884, and passed away Feb. 25, 1936, at Nichols Hospital, in Battle Creek, following a brief illness from pneumonia.  His entire life was spent in the community of Athens where he had a large circle of acquaintenances.  On Oct. 18, 1905, he was united in marriage to Miss Ethel Wells, and to them were born four children: one son, Merle, and three daughters, Rhea, Alison and Lorna Jean.  For more than a score of years he had resided on what is known as the Perry Wells farm and the contributions his genial, kindly manner have made to the life of the community, puts priceless treasures in the memory's store house that will linger long in the hearts and minds of his family and friends.  Mr. Tiffany was a member of the Congregational Church, also of the Masonic Order and Naomi Chapter No. 59, O.E.S., having given freely of his time and service to promote the welfare of these organizations, and was a past master of Athens Lodge No. 220, F. & A.M. He is survived by his wife, Ethel, and children, Mrs. Martin Levandowski of Ann Arbor; Alison, Merle and Lorna Jean, at home; one brother, Ray, two nephews, two nieces, other relatives and many friends.  Funeral services were held at the Spencer Funeral Home in Athens on Thursday, Feb. 27, with the Rev. Cecil DeKraker in charge.  The brothers of his lodge gave the impressive Masonic burial service.  Interment in Burr Oak Cem..  Card of Thanks. Mere words can never interpret our appreciation to the many friends and societies for their sympathy in our sorrow.  Especially do we thank our good neighbors for their faithful help during the illness and after the death of our loved one.  Mrs. Ethel Tiffany and family.

OBITUARY.  The Athens Times.  February 26, 1936.  Claude A. Tiffany is Victim of Pneumonia.  Well Known Farmer Put Up Valiant Fight For Life, But Died Early Yesterday Morning.  Claude A. Tiffany, aged 51 years, a lifelong resident of this vicinity, died at 2 a.m. yesterday morning, Feb. 25, at Nichols Hospital in Battle Creek where he was taken a week ago for treatment.  Pneumonia was the cause of death.  Blood transfusions and oxygen were resorted to in an effort to save his life, but from the start the disease seemed to have been so deep-seated that all efforts were unavailing.  He was born in Athens Twp. in September, 1884.  He was a member of the Congregational Church and of Athens lodge No. 220 F. & A.M., serving for several terms as worshipful master.  He is survived by his wife, Ethel; three daughters, Mrs. Martin Levandowski of Ann Arbor, Alison of Lansing and Lorna Jean at home; one son, Merle, also at home; one brother, Ray, of Sherwood Twp., and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at the Spencer Funeral Home Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with the Rev. Cecil DeKraker officiating.  The Masonic Lodge will conduct the burial service.

OBITUARY.  Battle Creek Enquirer and Evening News, Tuesday, Feb. 25, 1936. Athens - Claude Tiffany, 51, farmer living three miles west of the village, died at 2 a.m. today at Nichols Hospital of pneumonia.  He had been at the hospital a week.  Mr. Tiffany was born in Athens Township in September 1884. He was a member of the Congregational Church and the Masonic Lodge 220, F. & A.M.  Surviving are the widow, Ethel; three daughters, Mrs. Rhea Leavendowski of Ann Arbor, Allison of Lansing and Lorna Jean at home; one son, Merle at home; one brother, Ray near Athens.  Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Spencer Funeral Home.  A Masonic funeral will be held.  The Rev. Cecil DeKraker will be in charge.

Ethel Lynn Wells

OBITUARY.  Battle Creek Enquirer and News, Aug. 1987.  Ethel L. Tiffany. Athens - Ethel L. (Wells) Tiffany, 99, of 537 W. Burr Oak St., died Monday in Leila Hospital in Battle Creek after a short illness. She was born in East Leroy and moved to Athens with her family at the age of 3, and Vicksburg, returning to Athens in 1940.  She formerly was employed by Franklin Memorial Hospital in Vicksburg. She was a member of the Athens Congregational Church and its Ladies Guild and a life member of Naomi Chapter 59 Order of the Eastern Star.  Her husband, Claude Tiffany died in 1936.  She is survived by daughters, Rhea Levandowski of Ann Arbor, and Lorna Carter of Athens; a son, Merle Tiffany of White Pigeon; four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.  Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Spencer Funeral Home.  Memorial donations may be made to the Athens Congregational Church.  We do not have the names of the great-grandchildren.

The Athens Times, Friday, February 14, 1913.  Perry Wells Passed Away Sunday. Had Lived in Sherwood Twp. 58 Years.  Died. February 9, 1913. His obituary states that he is survived by a foster daughter, Mrs. Ethel Tiffany.  Perhaps Ethel's maiden name was not Wells.  Her marriage license said her parents were unknown.
