John L. Carpenter
The announcement of the death of a good citizen, one of a long and useful life, brings gladness to the entire community. To announce the death of a life long friend brings a poignant pain to the heart of any man.
John L. Carpenter.. was born b what is now Clay County, Alabama, on January 3, 1864, and died at his home about three miles west of Pineville on July 13, 1980, thus having a mortal life of 76 years, 6 months and 10 days.
At the early age of about nine years his father died, leaving him a small boy, with a widowed mother and five sisters to help support. But with that pluck and tune which always characterized his life and all he did, he bravely went at the task, never murmuring; nor complaining, for it was not his nature to murmur and complain.
Bearing in mind the perion in this country's history whet young Carpenter came upon the stage of activity), the dart, period of Reconstruction in the South after the War he tween the States, we can better appreciate the struggles which were his, and admire all the more the success he attained.
Social, pleasant end agreeable, always popular with his fellows and associates, it was but natural for young John L. to marry at an early age. He had taken advantage of the meager opportunities.
