368. John Harlin Carpenter

BURIAL: Macedonia Prim Bap Cemetery.

John Harlin Carpenter - born and died in Clay Co., AL.  "They had such
a wonderful house.  It was on  asmall rise, to better catch the breeze.  The
porch went almost all around the house.  Of course, the tin roof covered the
porch.  There was a fig tree in the yard.  If we were there early in the
summer, I was able to eat all the fits I wanted.  Later in the summer th
efits were often covered in June bugs.  Not these small hard shelled brown
bugs folks now call June bugs.  These were so pretty, they were black with
bright green markings.  We could catch them and play with them.  They tickled
when they crawled on our arms.  Then we did bug abuse.  We tied a string
around their back leg and let them fly around.  Quite often they lost a back
leg.  Wonder if this is why I catch spiders, rollie pollies, crickets and
other good bugs in my house and take them outside?" [Source: e-mail from Gail
Elliott Tucker to Donna Carpenter, 7/16/98].
