On 1 Jan 1929, while on a hunting trip, Starling was accidently shot in the head. The coroner ruled it was an accident which is listed on his death certificate. He was brought back to Wister to be buried alongside his first wife Ollie in Ellis-Chapel Cemetery.

Howard Braxton Martin, 87, of Amarillo died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with Dr. Wylie E. "Buff" Hearn of Kingswood United Methodist Church officiating and the Rev. Tom Lane of Gateway Fellowship of Fort Worth assisting. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.Mr. Martin was born March 23, 1917, in Leflore County, Okla., to William and Milia Redwine Martin. He married Lucy Ella Callaway on April 30, 1939, in Leflore County. They were married 63 years before she passed away on Dec. 8, 2002. They moved to Amarillo in 1943 from Wister, Okla.
He retired from Santa Fe Railroad after more than 40 years of service in the water department. He was a member of Kingswood United Methodist Church and the Amarillo Senior Citizens, where he loved to play pool. His great joys in life were playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, working in his yard, meeting friends at church and at the Senior Citizens Center and reading.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sisters; and four brothers.
Survivors include a daughter, Patsy Corley and husband, Douglas, of Clovis, N.M.; two grandchildren, Mandy Ratledge and husband, Matt, of Clovis and Braxton Corley and wife, Lisa, of Fort Worth; and six great-grandchildren, Lane Corley, Milia Ratledge, Cadence Ratledge, Bryahnna Ratledge, Brytnee Ratledge and Brynndyn Ratledge.
The family suggests memorials be to BSA Hospice, 200 N.W. Seventh Ave., Amarillo, TX 79101 or to Kingswood UMC Building Fund, 4801 S. Austin St., Amarillo, TX 79110.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Harrell was born July 7, 1923 in Wister, OK to Edward and Alpha (Green) Midgley. He was a rancher and retired Greyhound Lines bus driver. Harrell was a POW in Stalag 9, Bad Orb, Germany for 106 days, having been captured at the Battle of the Bulge on the Siegfried Line. Harrell was a member of the Church of God Seventh Day in Wister, OK until his passing. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Lucille (Casey) Midgley; his parents; 5 brothers & 5 sisters.Survivors include his sons, Scotty of Poteau, OK, Vernon & Ruby of Poteau, OK, & Marshall & Charlotte of Stockton, CA; his grandchildren, Vernon & Kathleen Midgley, Tanya & Kenneth Parks, Marcy & Jason Head, Lorie & Steve Rutledge, Matt & Lisa Sanders, Kenny & Olivia Midgley, Mitch Sampson, Tasha & Isaiah Bizzell, Kristin & Kyle Maslakow; 23 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews & loved ones.

The family will receive friends Thursday, October 9, between the hours of 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Elmwood Chapel. A graveside service will be Friday, October 10, at 10:30 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery with Dr. Thomas Duncan officiating. Elmwood Chapel directing.
