Elijah Garrett (You have him listed as Eliza G.) - He was born on
Feb. 26, 1882 in Clay Co., AL.  He died on Dec. 8, 1955, in Lafayette, AL.
His body was interred in the Lafayette Cemetery.  He married Jo Landa Johnson
on Nov. 26, 1902.  She was born on Nov. 26, 1882, In Lineville, Clay Co., AL.
She died on Sept. 26, 1965 in Lafayette and her body was interred in the
Lafayette Cemetery.  They had the following children:
       1.  Mattie Bell
       2.  Thelma Geneva - born on Sept. 9, 1903, died Oct. 14, 1903.  Her
body was interred in the Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Clay
Co., AL.  The tombstone inscription reads:  "Sleep on sweet babe and take thy
rest.  God called her home [He thought it] best." [My footnote:  Personal
survey of the cemetery in July and August, 1999.]
       3.  Ina Mae - born on June 9, 1906.  She married Frank H. McElroy on
May 17, 1931.  Frank was born on July 1, 1904.  He was a Presbyterian
minister and Superintendent of Georgia Presbyterian Home for the Aged at
Quitman, GA.  Ina Mae attended Jacksonville State University and taught
school for several years in Alabama.  They had the following children:
           a.  Ina Mae McElroy, born Dec. 9, 1932.
           b.  Mamie Joan McElroy, born March 28, 1934.
           c.  Nellie Frank McElroy, born Jan. 13, 1936.
           d.  William McPheters McElroy, born on March 9, 1939.
           e.  Martha Bruse McElroy, born on Oct. 29, 1940.
           f.  Roland McElroy, born on Jan. 22, 1944.
           g.  Annie Laura McElroy, born on Jan. 30, 1945.
           h.  Frank H. McElroy, born on July 2, 1947.

       4.  Katie Joe, born on Jan. 22, 1909, in Ashland, Clay Co., AL.  She
married Lee Tillery on Dec. 15, 1935.  Lee was born April 27, 1902.  He died
on July 17, 1965.  Katie Jo and Lee had the following child.
           a.  Nicketti Tillery, born Jan. 1, 1937.
       5.  John Lewis, born on Sept. 2, 1910, in Ashland, Clay Co., AL, died
on April 2, 1959, in Birmingham, Jefferson Co., AL.  He married Janet Bethel.
She taught at the West Georgia State College.  After moving to Bynum,
Calhoun Co., AL, she taught school, then owned the Red Barn Gift Shop in
Bynum.  John Lewis was an Auburn University Graduate in Health and Physical
Education.  He taught school at Tatum, GA, while attending college.  He too
taught at West Georgia State College.  He did health and physical education
in the training school for young children.  He later accepted the job of
setting up the Housing and Recreation Projects for Anniston Ordnance Depot,
Bynum, Calhoun Co., AL.  He worked hard planing recreation for all races and
ages at the base.  He also organized an interdenominational church on the
base.
       6.  Sarah Christine, born on Dec. 23, 1912.  She married Alfred Piper
on Jan. 20, 1934.  They had the following children:
           a.  Grimmie Garrett Piper, born April 7, 1937.
           b.  Marsha Christine Piper, born Feb. 25, 1945.
       7.  Mary Webster, born on Sept. 18, 1914.  She married John Calvin
McGoogan III on Jan. 1, 1945.  He was born on March 13, 1912.  They had the
following children:
           a.  Diane Mary McGoogan, born March 10, 1946.
           b.  John Calvin McGoogan IV, born on May 12, 1948.
       8.  Floy Laverne, born on Oct. 19, 1917. She married Horase Dodge
Dobson on June 28, 1941.  Horase was born on Aug. 12, 1916.  They had the
following child:
           a.  Catherine Betty Dobson, born Jan. 8, 1951.
       9.  Eva Jane Carpenter, born on Sept. 29, 1919.  She married Ray
Griggs July 7, 1941.  He was born on Sept. 6, 1916 and died on Nov. 17, 1961,
in Mableton, GA.  Ray was a U.S. Post Office carrier in Atlanta, GA.  Eva
Jane attended Jacksonville State University, Jacksonville, Calhoun Co., AL,
and later graduated from Emory University in Atlanta, GA.  She majored in
elementary education and taught school in GA.  Eva Jane and Ray had the
following child:
           a.  Janice Griggs was born on Sept. 30, 1944.
