NOTE:
Jacob was born in Germany likely as a Zimmerman or Charpentier or similar surname.  It was changed to Carpenter in America. Some documents show that someone with his name (Jacob Zimmerman) came to Philadelphia in September of 1804 on the Ship Atlantick, Elihu Doty, Master, from Amsterdam.
This is taken from a list by Strasburghes and Hinkle (port of Philadelphia 1727 to 1808). That list states that he had a son, Jacob with him.
That list does not mention the wife, Margaret (Borrah).
Jacob was the oldest child. Conrad was three years younger than Jacob, born in 1806 so if this is the Jacob Zimmerman family of ours, then Jacob Jr would have been 1 or 2 years old when undertaking the crossing.
This per Richard F. Carpenter and supported by Charles Clifford Carpenter, Jr.

COMMENT:
The above two mentioned have Y-DNA tested and match each other geneticaly using Y-DNA. See Group 17 of the Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA Project.  https://carpentercousins.com
In addition these two match genetically a Charpentier, Cherpantier, Sherbondy (and other variants) French line that went into PA.
This means we have either two unrelated lineages in geopgraphical time matching genetically - I.E. Germany and France - Or the German origin is actually French.
OR ... just to have fun ... The French line went through Germany to get to America?
