SALTVILLE, Va. Kenneth E. "Ace" Carpenter, age 69, passed away on Oct. 22, 2011, in the Hands of Grace Assisted Living in Marion, Va. Ace was a longtime employee of the former Griffin Motors in Saltville, then worked as a security guard at Titan Wheel. He was a dedicated member of the Cardwelltown Freewill Baptist Church where he was especially loved for his kindness and attention towards the children of the church and community. Ace enjoyed handing out candy and goodies to the young and old alike. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Novella Barrett Carpenter. Survivors include his cousin, Lee Tuggle as well as a host of other distant relatives, Church family and many friends and neighbors and special friend, Brenda Evans. Funeral services for Kenneth Earl Carpenter will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday evening Oct. 25, 2011, in the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Baumbardner and the Rev. Jack Sprinkle officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. prior to the service. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Mount Rose cemetery with pallbearers Allen Cardwell, Frank Wyatt, Ted Wilson, Melvin Nipper, Jay Miller and Kenny Gilbert. Joe Bob Olinger and Ralph Gilbert will be honorary pallbearers. Online condolences may be sent to drhendersonfuneralhome.com D.R. Henderson funeral home in Saltville is serving the Carpenter family.

Ray E. Carpenter, 74, of Rockwood, died August 23, 1978, in Meyersdale Community Hospital.
Born May 26, 1904, in Bedford County, he was the son of Charles and Anna Del (Evans) Carpenter. He is survived by his wife, Florence (Sanner) Carpenter of Rockwood; four sons, Ronald of Purcillville, Va.; Ray of Rockwood; Roy of Jefferson, Md.; Kenneth of Hagerstown, Md.; three daughters, Mrs. Kathryn Enos of Markleton RD 1; Mrs. Marion Hinzy of Somerset RD 6; Mrs. Carol Withum of Verona; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Horchner of Hagerstown, Md.; and Mrs. Nellie Calvert of Morgantown, W. Va.; 18 grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Friends were received in the William J. Wood Funeral Home, Rockwood, where services were conducted Saturday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Dewayne Johnson Officiating. Interment, Rockwood IOOF Cemetery.The Republic, August 31, 1978

Florence Elizabeth Carpenter, 99, Rockwood, passed on June 30, 2008, at The Patriot, Somerset.
Born March 23, 1909, in Markleton, a daughter of the late Norman and Mattie (Sechler) Sanner.
She is also preceded in death by her husband, Ray E. Carpenter, who passed on August 23,1978; daughter, Kathryn (Carpenter) Pyle Tedrow; grandson, Benjamin Carpenter; great-grandsons, Eric and Kevin Withum; brothers, Roy, Freeman and Arthur Sanner; and sister, Jean Holmgren. Survived by her daughters, Marion Hinzy and husband, Homer, Somerset; and Carol Withum and husband, Richard, Verona; sons, Ronald Carpenter and wife, Doris (Tedrow), Purcellville, Va.; Ray Carpenter and wife, Sharon (Phillippi), Rockwood; Roy Carpenter and wife, Susan (Jawish), Jefferson, Md.; and Kenneth Carpenter and wife, Linda (Staymates), Waynesboro; sisters, Erma Younkin and Sara Gross, both of Berlin; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and five great-great- grandchildren.
She was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Rockwood, where she belonged to the Christian Women's Fellowship, and was a member of the Rockwood Senior Citizen's Club.
Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home, Rockwood, where a service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Mark Ongley officiating. Interment at Rockwood IOOF Cemetery.July 1, 2008 Daily American

MRS. SARAH E. CARPENTER
Sarah Edith Carpenter, age 105, of Sedan, Kansas passed away Monday, January 8, 2007 at the Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home in Sedan, Kansas.
She was born September 13, 1901 in Marion County, Kansas to John William and Margaret (Shoemaker) Ford. She was the youngest of ten children. She moved to Sedan in 1916. She married Roy B. Carpenter on May 1, 1922 at the Chautauqua County Courthouse. He preceded her in death on July 14, 1964.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sedan since 1919 and had always been very active in the church.
She is survived by two sons, Harold Carpenter of Sedan, Kansas and Jack Carpenter of Peru, Kansas; three daughters, Geraldine Wilson of Elk City, Kansas, Dorothy Garret of Caney, Kansas, and Maxine Brim of Elgin, Kansas, and twelve grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roy, five brothers and four sisters.
Family and friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan, Kansas.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 11, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Sedan, Kansas. Interment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan, Kansas.
The family suggests memorials to the First Baptist Church, contributions may be left with the funeral home.
