Mr. Thurman Carpenter age 93 of the
Altamont Community died Wednesday
In a Banner Elk Nursing Home after an
extended illness. He was a native of
Avery County and a son of the late
William and Julia Vance Carpenter.
Thurman was preceded in death by his
wife, Ada Carpenter.
Survivors are one son, James Harry
Carpenter of Newland, one brother
Dellie Carpenter of Jonas Ridge, NC,
one sister, Zoda Benfield of Rt. 3
Newland, NC, 9 grandchildren 18
great-grandchildren, 1 great- great-
grandchild, several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Thurman
Carpenter were held at 2 p.m. Friday
at Big Meadows Baptist Church of
which he was the oldest member. The
Revs. James Beaver and Charles
McKinney officiated. Interment followed
in the church cemetery

Mr. Fred Albert Carpenter, 77, of the Baton Community, went home to meet his Heavenly Father whom he loved and served all his life, on Sunday, January 21, 2007.He was born on September 28, 1929, in Caldwell County, North Carolina to Howard R. Carpenter Sr. and Evia Wilson Carpenter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Bostic Carpenter; four brothers, Howard Carpenter Jr., Eugene Carpenter, Homer Carpenter and Floyd Carpenter and one sister Doris Miller.
Mr. Carpenter was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the First Baptist Church of Granite Falls.

Hudson, NC- Mr. James Hubert Miller, age, 86, of Hudson, passed away Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Hudson. Born November 19, 1928 in Caldwell County, Mr. Miller was a son of the late Oscar James and Bertha Mae Hall Miller and the husband of the late Doris Carpenter Miller.Other than his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Ralph, Carl, Wilson and Boyd Miller and 2 sisters, Clarissa Townsend and Dorothy Miller.
James was a retired carpenter and farmer and a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid hunter of elk, antelope, deer and bears.
He is survived by three children; Ronald Hubert Miller and wife Jill of Vale; Sandy Bishop Ramsey of Hudson; Loretta Hice and husband Alton of Hudson; 2 sisters, Loreane White and husband Frank of Hudson; Linda Austin of Hudson; one brother, Clyde Miller and wife JoAnne of Hudson; 7 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Mr. Miller’s life will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Reverend Glen Walker and Reverend Edd Warren officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM, one hour prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be: Devin Hice, Johnny White, Jason Mikeal, Josh Davidson, Tommy Courtner, Robert Miller, Richard Miller and Freddie Rios. Honorary pallbearers will be the Bill Kincaid Sunday School Class.

Joseph Roscoe "J. R." CarpenterMr. Joseph Roscoe "J.R." Carpenter, 70, of Hildebran, N.C., died Saturday Oct. 18, 2008 at Frye Regional Medical, after a period of declining health.
Mr. Carpenter was born Nov. 17, 1937 in Caldwell County to the late Jody Judson and Brady Davis Carpenter.
J.R. was retired from General Electric, Inc. and a faithful member of Concord Baptist Church in Granite Falls. He was a veteran of the National Guard.
Surviving is his wife, Wanda Huffman Carpenter, of the home; three daughters, Donna Kirk, of Hildebran, Janice Ingle and husband, Jimmy, of Conover, and Jessica Poarch and husband, Tylor, of Hickory; a sister, Mary Townsend of Saw Mills; grandchildren, Jody and Michael Cook, Misty Parsons, Miranda Trivett, Kolbeigh and Kolton Poarch; and two great-grandchildren, Keith Cook and Khloee Trivett.
Funeral services for Joseph R. Carpenter will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Concord Baptist Church, Granite Falls, with the Revs. Tom McDonald and Rick Crouse.
Interment will follow in the Catawba Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese.
