Linda Gene Carpenter, 66, of Cumberland, passed away Sunday, Aug. 9, 2015, at her home.
Born Nov. 23, 1948, in Cumberland, Miss Carpenter was the daughter of the late Lee E. Carpenter Jr. and Audrey Mildred "Millie" (Everett) Carpenter.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, Dennis Carpenter.
After completing her education at Allegany High School, Linda was employed in the office of the family business, the Yellow Top Cab Company.
She attended the Zion United Methodist Church where she was a member of the choir.
Linda is survived by her brother, Ronald Carpenter and his wife, Donna, Cumberland; her half-sister, Patty Hughes, Joshua Tree, Calif.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She also leaves behind a good friend, John Mullin, Ridgeley, W.Va.; and a devoted aunt and uncle, Pat and Ethel Goss, Cumberland.
A memorial service will be conducted at the Zion United Methodist Church on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2015, at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Rebecca Vardiman officiating.The Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) is in charge of the arrangements.

MR. ORVILLE H. CARPENTER
SEDAN - Orville Hoyd Carpenter, 87, of Sedan died Tuesday morning, Nov. 22, 2005, at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Okla.
He was born Nov. 3, 1918, in Sedan, Kan. to Hoyd A. and Jennie M. (Ford) Carpenter. He grew up in Chautauqua County and graduated from Chautauqua Rural High School in 1936.
On Oct. 3, 1939, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He was stationed in California, Illinois and Utah prior to WWII On Nov. 21, 1941, he departed the United States for the Philippines, but was diverted to Australia due to the outbreak of war. He also was stationed in Java and New Guinea. Due to high experience levels, the group returned to the United States in December of 1942.
On July 31, 1943, he married Clara Elizabeth Johnson in Kermit, Texas. Following their marriage, he was sent to Japan, Guam, Okinawa, England, and Spain, as well as many Air Force Bases in the United States. On Oct. 31, 1963, he was honorably discharged as a Chief Warrant Officer. After his retirement, they moved to Sedan in 1964. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara, on March 12, 2005.
Mr. Carpenter was a member of the First Baptist Church. He also enjoyed woodworking, gardening and bowling.
Survivors include three daughters, Madeline, and her husband Mark Cavanaugh, Altus, Okla., Barbara and her husband, Jack Cummings, Sedan, Kan., and Cindy Carpenter, Sedan, Kan.; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, one sister, and two brothers.
Graveside services were at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 28, 2005, at Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan, with the Rev. Charles Klassen of the First Baptist Church officiating.
The family has suggested memorials to the Sedan VFW Post 6373 and can be left with the funeral home. Arrangements were under the direction of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home of Sedan.

MISS CINTHIA J. CARPENTER
Cynthia Jane “Cindy” Carpenter, age 57, of Sedan passed away Monday, Nov. 26, 2007 at her home in Sedan with her sister Barbara Cummings at her side.
She was born at the Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, Calif., on Nov. 3, 1950 to Orville H. and Clara E. Carpenter, sharing her birth date with her father and paternal grandmother. In her early years, she briefly attended special schooling in Altus, Okla. She lived in Idaho and Oklahoma for a brief time before moving home with her family in 1963 to Sedan.
She was a loving person born with Down Syndrome. She lived her entire life with her parents. After her mother died, her sister Barbara moved in and took care of Cindy and their Daddy until he passed away on Nov. 22, 2005.
She is survived by two sisters, Barbara Cummings of the home in Sedan, and Madeline June Cavanaugh and her husband Mark of Altus, Okla.; two nieces Mandy Miller of Sedan, and Mandy Cavanaugh of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two nephews, Corey Cummings and wife Jenny of Ashland, Mo., and Aaron Cavanaugh of the United States Army; five great nephews, Kody and Kolby Gorby and Korey Miller all of Sedan, and Tucker Cummings of Nowata, Okla., and Braden Cummings of Ashland, Mo., and one great niece, Stormey Cummings of Nowata, Okla.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Clara and one uncle, Jack Cummings.
The casket will be closed and friends may sign the register book from 9 a.m.-noon, Wednesday, Nov. 28, at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home of Sedan.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Chaplain Mike Graham officiating. Private family burial will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan.
The family has suggested memorial contributions to the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and the Down Syndrome Association and these remembrances may be left in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas Street, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
