Michael Lane "Mike" Carpenter Sr., 56, of the Pyatte community, passed away on Sunday May 27, 2012, at Watauga Medical Center.
A native of Avery County, he was born January 19, 1956, a son of the late William Harlan and Clarice Carpenter Carpenter.
He was a Christmas Tree Farmer and enjoyed camping, hunting and being with his family.
Carpenter will be greatly missed by his family and has left to cherish his memory his wife, Debbie Dunlap Carpenter of the home; son, Michael Lane Carpenter Jr. of Montezuma; son, Jesse Aaron Carpenter of Asheville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Wanda Carpenter of Big Buck Hill and Richard and Terri Carpenter of Pyatte; niece, Suzanne Calhoun and husband, Mike, of Pyatte; great niece, Haley Calhoun of Pyatte.
Funeral services for Carpenter were conducted 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at the Grandfather Chapel with Pastor Tim Ruppard officiating. The family received friends from 6 p.m. to the service hour. Interment was 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2012, in the Big Meadows Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Selby Jones Cancer Center, c/o ARHF, PO Box 2600 Boone, N.C. 28607.
Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home of Newland is serving the Carpenter family.
