3023. William Carpenter

Number 1409 in the book, the Carpenter Family in America by Daniel H.
Carpenter, 1901.  See page 305 for notes and family.
He published in 1884 a family tree on his Carpenter branch: "Abraham, Jacob
and Gilbert sons of John the Hatter."  This "tree" was used in the Carpenter
Family book of 1901.
It is a beautiful work of art. See Misc Pics.

UPDATE: Oct 2021
I have been in communications with Jenn Anderson and she graciously gave her permission to share more information on the Providence Carpenter line “Tree” image sent to me in 2011 from her. This hand drawn tree is an amazing work of love and was very neatly done. Jenn reported it was about 4 by 3 feet in size.

John R. Carpenter
La Mesa, CA  USA

Jenn reports the following (slight cleanup made for clarity) compiled from several emails.

We all got a copy from my grandmother usually when we got married.  It is in my hallway in CT right now.  My family members in NY have the other copies as does my mom and sister in FL.

My aunt and uncle probably has the original from which the professional copies have been made.

William Carpenter-46046 and Fanny Weeks-46049 Carpenter were Louise Weeks-46060 adopted parents.  I believe Fanny was her aunt.  Louise married Howard Flewwellin-46061.

At the bottom it says records obtained by William Carpenter of Amawalk, NY and I believe that is the same William Carpenter married to Fanny Weeks.  And you know the history of how my family is related to him.

Fanny was my gr-gr-gr aunt.  William and Fanny adopted niece of her brother, Louise Weeks Flewwellin - my gr-gr grandmother.

The picture attached is the addition of Louise to the tree on the bottom left.  So that's how it was handed down.  My grandmother, Evelyn Cornelia Flewwellin-135366, was very proud of this tree.  It really is a beautiful tree...the calligraphy looks like a work of art.

Thanks for sharing this work,

Jenn Anderson

Fannie Weeks

Services were held at the Amawalk meeting house on Sunday, 29 July 1900.

I find the following information in a family Bible.  Can any of you help with
this information?
I believe the following people are the family of my Great Grandmother but the
dates do not match.  My Great Grandmother was Maggie Kate Carpenter.  She was
born April 12, 1877.  Whoever wrote the date wrote 1876 first then wrote a 7
over the 6.  This information is on the some paper as the following
information.
Births
Merritt C. Carpenter    April 11, 1838
Harriet Cole    August 10,1842
John L. Carpenter    July 26, 1863
Chatty E. Carpenter    December 27, 1866
Mary Emma Carpenter    March 6, 1870
Eddie Carpenter    April 6, 1873
Deaths
Mary Emma Carpenter    December 19, 1872
Edgar P. Carpenter    February 23, 1874
Merrit C. Carpenter    August 31, 1876
Harriet Carpenter    April 28,1879
Marriages
Merritt Carpenter married Harriet Cole on October 15, 1862 in Minisink,
Jefferson Township, Morris County, New Jersey.  They were married by Rev.
Stephen Case.
Thanks, Daniel Riker.
Merritt C. Carpenter, born April 11, 1838, died August 31, 1876.  He married
Harriet Cole October 15, 1862
in Minisink, Orange County, New York.  Harriet Cole was born August 10, 1842,
died April 28, 1879. She
was the daughter of John Westfall Cole and Charity Coykendall.
Children of Merritt Carpenter and Harriet Cole:
John L. Carpenter, born April 26, 1863
Chatty E. Carpenter, born December 27, 1866
Mary Emma Carpenter, born March 6, 1870, died December 19, 1872

Most of this information came from my family's Bible.
Also in the Bible is a Edgar P. Carpenter died February 23, 1874.  I guess this
