He published in 1884 a family tree on his Carpenter branch: "Abraham, Jacob
and Gilbert sons of John the Hatter." This "tree" was used in the Carpenter
Family book of 1901.
It is a beautiful work of art. See Misc Pics.UPDATE: Oct 2021
I have been in communications with Jenn Anderson and she graciously gave her permission to share more information on the Providence Carpenter line “Tree” image sent to me in 2011 from her. This hand drawn tree is an amazing work of love and was very neatly done. Jenn reported it was about 4 by 3 feet in size.John R. Carpenter
La Mesa, CA USAJenn reports the following (slight cleanup made for clarity) compiled from several emails.
We all got a copy from my grandmother usually when we got married. It is in my hallway in CT right now. My family members in NY have the other copies as does my mom and sister in FL.
My aunt and uncle probably has the original from which the professional copies have been made.
William Carpenter-46046 and Fanny Weeks-46049 Carpenter were Louise Weeks-46060 adopted parents. I believe Fanny was her aunt. Louise married Howard Flewwellin-46061.
At the bottom it says records obtained by William Carpenter of Amawalk, NY and I believe that is the same William Carpenter married to Fanny Weeks. And you know the history of how my family is related to him.
Fanny was my gr-gr-gr aunt. William and Fanny adopted niece of her brother, Louise Weeks Flewwellin - my gr-gr grandmother.
The picture attached is the addition of Louise to the tree on the bottom left. So that's how it was handed down. My grandmother, Evelyn Cornelia Flewwellin-135366, was very proud of this tree. It really is a beautiful tree...the calligraphy looks like a work of art.
Thanks for sharing this work,
Jenn Anderson
Services were held at the Amawalk meeting house on Sunday, 29 July 1900.
