Carpenter's Station, Alabama
Carpenter's Station, Alabama, is a community located in Baldwin County, Alabama. It appears as "Carpenter" on the Bay Minette South U.S. Geological Survey Map.[1]
History
The community's name commemorates its original settler, Samuel Alexander Carpenter, born November 15, 1795 in Montgomery County, North Carolina, died February 2, 1884 at his home at Carpenter's Station, P.O. Hurricane, Baldwin County, Alabama (west of Bay Minette, Alabama).[2] During the War of 1812 he served in Captain Benjamin Cleveland's company of Tennessee Militia, enlisting on August 24, 1813 and serving for six months; he was honorably discharged on March 3, 1814, and later received a federal government pension for his service. In 1821, he was in the United States Territory of West Florida, where he signed a petition to the U.S. Congress expressing the signers' desire to be annexed to the State of Alabama.[3] On October 25, 1825, he married Aurelia Mary Hall in Baldwin County, Alabama.[4] She was born on January 2, 1807 in Mobile, Alabama, a daughter of Charles and Mary (Byrne) Hall of Baldwin County, both descendants of prominent pioneer families.[5] After their marriage, Samuel and Aurelia lived in Mobile County, Alabama, Escambia County, Florida, and Hancock County, Mississippi, as Samuel pursued a practice as an attorney. One source states that the P.O. received the official designation in 1898 for Aurelius M. Carpenter, who was killed while serving in the army during the Spanish-American War.[6]

James Alexander Carpenter
Birth: 18 Jul 1803 Montgomery County, North Carolina, USA
Death: 9 Mar 1899 (aged 95) Mobile County, Alabama, USA
Burial: Unknown, Specifically: Possibly in Hinton Cemetery, but unprovenMemorial #: 157867159
Bio: James was born in Montgomery County, North Carolina to Solomon and Elizabeth Poer Carpenter. He was the youngest of three other siblings, Cynthia, Samuel Alexander and David Marcus. At some time during the 1840's, he moved to Perry County, Mississippi along with other Carpenter relatives.James met and married Martha Elizabeth Hinton, the daughter of William Riley and Martha Jane Everett Hinton on 27 Nov 1849.A farmer by trade, he managed to care for his wife and growing family in that little community in Perry County.According to the Federal census taken in 1860, he and Martha had moved the family to Port au Pines, Alabama where he continued to farm. Family legend was that he moved to Mobile county near his brother Samuel Alexander Carpenter.Following the death of his wife, Martha, his younger daughters, Martha and Georgianna, moved in with their maternal grandparents. His sons, Henry and John, remained with him and helped on the farm. He was still farming into his 70's. He may have moved back to Perry County to be near his in-laws since they were taking care of the younger daughters.

Possibly Solomon Carpenter-153772NAME:
Thomas by default being the ONLY male Carpenter documented in the 1840 US Census that was West of Escambia River, and, Bay of Pensacola, Escambia County, Florida Territory! See below.
BUT ... That Thomas is in Baldwin County, AL in 1830.
AND ... A Samuel A. Carpenter is in Escambia County, Florida in 1830! This is likely Samuel Alexander Carpenter-153744 b. 15 Nov 1795 in Montgomery County, NC. Shown as brother for now.COMMENT:
Directly to the east of present day Baldwin County, Alabama is Escambia County then across Pensacola Bay is Santa Rosa County both in Florida.NOTE:
Baldwin County was established on December 21, 1809, ten years before Alabama became a state. Previously, the county had been a part of the Mississippi Territory until 1817, when the area was included in the separate Alabama Territory. Statehood was gained by Alabama in 1819.
Directly to the east is Escambia County then across Pensacola Bay is Santa Rosa County, Florida.
NOTE:
Santa Rosa County was created in 1842, when it was divided from Escambia County. It was named after the barrier island along its southern coast, which in turn had been named for the Roman Catholic saint, Rosa de Viterbo.
Escambia County had been part of Spanish colonial settlement before the United States acquired it in 1818. The county was organized by European-Americans on July 21, 1821; it was named for the Escambia River. The name "Escambia" may have been derived from the Creek name Shambia, meaning "clear water",[4] or the Choctaw word for "cane-brake" or "reed-brake". The Choctaw were another major tribe in the Southeast.
NOTE:
Created on the same date, Escambia and St. Johns Counties were Florida's two original counties, covering the entire territory within modern state boundaries. The Suwannee River was the border between them,[6] following a winding path from the northern border of the state to the Gulf of Mexico. Essentially, the Escambia county government had jurisdiction over the "panhandle" and "big bend" areas, and St. Johns over the remainder of the entire state.
Per WikipediaHISTORY: Florida history extract
In 1810, parts of West Florida were annexed by the proclamation of President James Madison, who claimed the region as part of the Louisiana Purchase. These parts were incorporated into the newly formed Territory of Orleans. The U.S. annexed the Mobile District of West Florida to the Mississippi Territory in 1812. Spain continued to dispute the area, though the United States gradually increased the area it occupied. In 1812, a group of settlers from Georgia, with de facto support from the U.S. federal government, attempted to overthrow the Floridan government in the province of East Florida. The settlers hoped to convince Floridians to join their cause and proclaim independence from Spain, but the settlers lost their tenuous support from the federal government and abandoned their cause by 1813.[36]
During the ...1817-1818 campaign against the Seminole Indians by Andrew Jackson that became known as the First Seminole War. The United States now effectively controlled East Florida. Control was necessary according to Secretary of State John Quincy Adams because Florida had become "a derelict open to the occupancy of every enemy, civilized or savage, of the United States, and serving no other earthly purpose than as a post of annoyance to them."
Florida had become a burden to Spain, which could not afford to send settlers or troops due to the devastation caused by the Peninsular War. Madrid, therefore, decided to cede the territory to the United States through the Adams-Onís Treaty, which took effect in 1821.[38] President James Monroe was authorized on March 3, 1821 to take possession of East Florida and West Florida for the United States and provide for initial governance.] Andrew Jackson, on behalf of the U.S. federal government, served as a military commissioner with the powers of governor of the newly acquired territory for a brief period. On March 30, 1822, the U.S. Congress merged East Florida and part of West Florida into the Florida Territory.

The Carpenter Memorial on page 763 has his name as Eleazer Armstrong of Athens
county, OH. In 1849, Eleazer made an overland trip to CA which
proved to be a very successful one. On his reurn to OH, he went into stock
rasing. He had one son, William, who died when about 17. Soon after his son's
death, he and his wife took charge of the Athens county children's house
located at Athens, OH. Their management received the unanimous approbation
from the state board of charities. The AF has marriage date to Lydia M. Carpenter as 17 Nov 1858, yet the
AF has a child born to him in abt 1853. The Carpenter memorial indicates
Lydia and Eleazer had only one child, William who died when age 17.
