...
A bit of detail: My great-aunt Esther Hunter Carpenter (1894-1981) was the daughter of
William F.M. Carpenter, who was the son of Isaac Carpenter (DHC962) & Esther Griffin.
Aunt Esther lived with us for many years, and, at the end of her life, lived with the
family of my first cousin Barbara Carpenter French (who had some correspondence with
the Cousins some years back). Our Aunt Esther was an enthusiastic genealogist, and
Barbara inherited her notes, which she shared with me.
Aunt Esther's brother was Edward Griffin Carpenter, who was my grandfather - and his son (Barbara's father) and grandson (Barbara's brother) have this same name; i.e., "Griffin" remains in the family, as well as "Esther." I realize that this is anecdotal ...
HOWEVER: I have reason to believe that the Cousins records might
have a contradictory ID of this line, owing, possibly,
to there being lots of Daniel Griffen/Griffins in the Quaker burial ground in Purchase.
I believe that Esther Griffin's father was Daniel [QP435] Griffin (1798-1876); and her
mother was Anne/Anna Cornell [QP436] -- and the Cornells seem to have been as
dedicated to family history as the Carpenters.
I'd love to untangle this web some time!
Anyway: many many thanks to you, and best wishes -
Gail
