Bio: HAVANA, IL - Clyde L. Eaton, 85, of 217 S. Plum died at 9:08 p.m. Sunday, May 28, 2000, at his home. Born April 4, 1915, in Bath to Clyde D. and Ruth Langston Eaton, he married Marilyn Carpenter on Dec. 5, 1939. She died March 18, 1997. Surviving are two sons, Daniel Eaton of Champaign and Randall Eaton of Enterprise, Ore.; one daughter, Lynn (and John) Bosworth of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. Two brothers also preceded him in death. He was an attorney, a former insurance agent and owner of Eaton Loan. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1938 with a degree in banking and finance. He worked for International Harvester Co. He returned to Havana in 1940 and operated a loan and insurance business with his father. He graduated from Lincoln College of Law in Springfield in 1951 and began practicing in Mason County. He was a former member of Havana Rotary Club; Havana Chamber of Commerce, where he served as chairman of the Industrial Development Committee; and Ansar Shrine in Springfield. He was a former trustee of Havana Public Library and Spoon River College. He also managed family farms in Chandlerville and Biggs. She had two brothers: William E. and Robert.Fran married "Carl" Carpenter and they had a son, William Dean Carpenter, born in 1938 in Iowa. By 1940 they moved from Chicago to Havana Township, Mason, Illinois, where he was an assistant manager of a variety store. They had a daughter Sandra.They lived in Des Moines from 1963 to 1973, when they moved to Ames. She was retired from Snyder Drug and a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, T.T.T., and American Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband, Rolland; a son, William of Urbandale; a daughter, Sandra K. Clem of Ames; a brother, Robert A. Hodgetts of Chicago; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
