Descendants of Richard Carpenter-669 & son William Carpenter-662 Carpenter Cousins Encyclopedia of Carpenters - 2023 Update

Notes

2546. Fidelia Carpenter

Number 244-4 in the Timothy Carpenter book.
Fidelia is sometimes recorded as "Pidelia".  In the letters of administration
of her mother's estate, dated March 10, 1886, it is spelled with an "F".
A letter of Fidelia's mother to Fideli's brother Isaac (250) on May 28, 1876
states Fidelia was then bedridden and residing at Broken Straw, NY.

William Purdy Jr.

William and members of his family are mentioned in various census records of
Panama, beginning in 1860.  In the 1860 census is listed an uncle, James Purdy,
age 80.  The 1865 census mentions children not given in the previous census.

2547. Isaiah R. Carpenter

Number 245-4 in the Timothy Carpenter book.  At least one child.
Isaiah was the second son of that name in his family, the first having died in
infancy.  He and members of his family are mentioned in various Harmony Twp.
census records, beginning in 1860.  He was named administrator of his mother's
estate dated March 10, 1886.

Rachel Ann Alexander

One record gives Rachel's death as 1892.  Gravestones in good condition in
1965.

2548. Ira Carpenter

Number 246-4 in the Timothy Carpenter book.
Ira is mentioned as being of full age in letters of Administration of his
mother's estate dated March 10, 1886.  He was then living in Benton, Washington
Terminal.  One record gives his death as 1920.  Granson Ira, reported this
family did not use middle names.

Samantha Arabelle Holden

Buried in a private burial ground owned by the family at the time of her
death.

2551. Betsey Carpenter

Number 249-4 in the Timothy Carpenter book.
Bestey was residing in Jamestown, NY when letters of administration were
issued on her mother's estate dated March 10, 1886.   One record gave her birth
as the 16th of June, but the 17th is from a bible record.

2552. Isaac Nathan "Nathan" Carpenter

Number 250-4 in the Timothy Carpenter book.
Isaac referred to himself as the 10th and youngest son.  He is mentioned in
letters of administration of his mother's estate dated March 10, 1886.
In obit of daughter Mable's first spouse, John W. Ramsey of Antioch, MI, it
is mentioned that Isaac and his family were residing at Wexford, with a P.O.
address of Sherman, MI.
The Traverse Region, Historical & Descriptive, published by H.L. Page & Co. at
Wexford county states Isaac was the first Probate Judge of Wexford county.

NOTE:
Chautauqua County was established in February 1811 when the 1810 tax rolls verified a population of more than 500 taxable inhabitants. Mayville was selected as the county seat and the first courthouse was constructed between 1812 and 1815 (the War of 1812 slowed construction).

COMMENT:
A descendant of this person has Y-DNA tested and the DNA profile does not match Group 3 (this Carpenter line) but Group 98.
Group 98 is based on the genetic descendants of R-M269.
The descendant who Y-DNA tested closely matches the surnames of Matteson/Mattison/Mathewson. THIS SUGGESTS that this Isaac Nathan was formally or informally adopted into this Carpenter lineage.  We call this an NPE - non-paternity event..
