BIRTH:
William Townsend Carpenter was the son of William Coles Carpenter and his wife Ann (Annie) Augusta Townsend, was born 18 July 1844 in Oyster Bay.
MARRIAGE:
He married Sarah Frost on 19 January 1868. At the time of the 1870 census William, age 25 and Sarah, age 24 were living and working his mother's farm in Oyster Bay, and thier son William Frost Carpenter was only 4 months old, having been born in February of 1870. Also living on the farm at that time were William's mother Annie, age 47, a widow, and his sisters Phebe, age 29, Hannah T., age 18 and Mary S., age 7. In addition, Fanny Carpenter (nee Coles), age 88, who was William's grandmother and widow of his grandfather was also living there. The farm was valued at $16,000 and the personal property at $8,000, so it was a large estate sized farm. In the 1880 census of Oyster Bay William and Sarah are enumerated along with son Willam, who was then 10 and his younger brothers Harry, age 8 and Clarence, age 1. William T. Carpenter was still farming, and the family was either living in a boarding house, or there was a boarding house on his farm run by Mrs. Mary E. Jackson, age 49, wife of Thomas J. Jackson. There as many as 29 boarders listed, many of whom were farm laborers and domestic servants.
DEATH:
William T. Carpenter died at Glen Cove on 18 July 1896. The death notice in the New York Herald stated he died in his 52nd. year; Funeral Services Tuesday, July 21, at St. Paul's Church, on arrival of 11 o'clock train from Long L\Island City. Carriages will meet train at Glen Cove (Glen-st.). He was born on 18 Jul 1844 at Oyster Bay, Queens, New York, USA. He married Sarah C. FROST (1620), daughter of Valentine FROST (1816) and Caroline Wilhamina COLVERT (1817), in 1869 at Oyster Bay, Queens, New York, USA. He died on 18 Jul 1896 at Queens, New York, USA, at age 52.**************
