Hi John, I'm the Moorhead resident. Did not always
live here, for some 30 years I lived in Pelican
Rapids. I decided to retire in Moorhead, have a son
living here and also have public transportation here.
I grew up in Fergus Falls. To bad Mom did not know of
a Carpenter family member in this area as she would
have enjoyed a visit. The Carpenter family did not do
well at keeping in touch it seems. I'm searching for
some of my cousins and it's a problem. I do know some
of my cousins are still in California and most likely
there would be some information in Fresno. Think my
uncle Morris died in Fresno and may be buried
thereabouts.
Read a news article about an awful happening to a John
Carpenter family. Would this be any part of your
family? I'm hoping not but for anyone it would be
horrible, horrible. I have prayed for the family
regardless who they belong to. Let me know if this
was your family.

Bio:
Herbert Richter, 90, of Fergus Falls, died March 12, 1998 at Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls.
He was born April 19,1907, in Friberg Township in Otter Tail County, the son of Paul and Ida (Schleske) Richter. He was baptized at St Paul Lutheran Church, East Friberg and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in West Friberg. He attended Elliot School District No. 229 in Friberg Township. In his early days, he worked with his father on the farm and in the harvest fields in North Dakota and Canada. He lived near the Otter Tail River and helped build Friberg Dam.
On August 27, 1932, he married Eunice Carpenter at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. The couple then moved to Fergus Falls. He was employed for more than 15 years by Bjorklund Manufacturing Company on Washington Avenue and Court Street. He built truck bodies, grain boxes and so on. They would build or repair anything. Mr. Richter then worked for Phoenix Insurance Company, repairing and building houses. In 1942, he began farming in Fergus Falls Township and retired in 1969.
On Aug. 1, 1971, he married Elsie Christopherson at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Dalten.
He was a member of Eagles, Y's Folks and Zion Lutheran Church. He enjoyed gardening and he especially enjoyed Polka dancing.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Gale; five sisters, Elsie Zuehlsdorf, Frieda Sherman, Frances Duenow, Annetta Hagen and Hilda Zahnow; and four brothers, Reinhart, Arthur, Otto and Bernard, who died as an infant
Visitation: Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls
