9831. Ada Gale\belle Tanner

NAME: Ada Gale or Ada Belle TANNER.

Jessey "Jake" Blosser

Following taken from the Mowrey book: America "Mec" Tanner was born 3
September 1869, died 26 November 1940 and married Jessey "Jake" Blosser 24
August 1906 (born circa 1872, died 19  February 1941, son of John and Mary
"Polly" (Hines) Blosser). Reverend Jerome R.S.  Mowrey officiated the ceremony
at Jesse Tanner Jr.'s house on Craig Ridge.  Note that the spelling of the
nickname is different in this reference and from the  orginal entry for this
person.
There continues to be some confusion in the Mowrey book on page  117 where the
family of America is given.  The children in the family are shown as follows:
(copied from the book)
Children of America "Mec" Tanner, of Jesse Tanner Jr., of Jesse Tanner/Mary
"Polly" (17) Carpenter
1. America Tanner Jr. (so-called) was born 15 December 1888  and died 18 July
1950 (adopted? by William and           Sarah (Greathouse) Tucker).
2. Howard Tanner was born in September of 1891.
3. Fred Goff was born in September of 1893.
4. Hugh Mowrey was born 15 November 1897, died 23 February 1937 of  consumption
in the State Hospital at           Spencer, Roane County, West Virginia and
married 8 November 1925 Alice Tanner (born circa 1909, daughter        of
Claiborne and Mary (Allen) Tanner).
5. Dorsey Blosser
6. Raymond Blosser
As can be seen from the above there are apparently 4 children with a different
last name than Americas husband, Jesse "Jake" Blosser, (assuming that "Jake" is
a male, and America is a female).  For that reason I am entering the names of
the children as shown in the Mowrey book as it is quite possible that the first
4 children were taken in by America and "Jake", as has been previously pointed
out that was not uncommon during  that time and place!

9848. Amercian Tanner Blosser

Born either a Tanner or Blosser or adopted as a Blosser.

9849. Howard Tanner Blosser

Born either a Tanner or Blosser or adopted as a Blosser.

9850. Fred Tanner Blosser

Born either a Tanner or Blosser or adopted as a Blosser.

James Carpenter

James (18) Carpenter was born circa 1836 and married 1st 3 August 1857 in
Roane County (then VA) Mary Nicholas (daughter of James and Sarah (Unknown)
Nicholas) and 2nd 3 July 1866 in Roane County (then WV) Charlotte Starcher
(daughter of Isaac and Mary (Tanner) Starcher) and resided in Roane County
in 1870 and 1880. The Jesse Carpenter (his father?) found in the
Braxton County Census of 1850 cannot be the same Jesse Carpenter
(his uncle) who appears in the Jackson County census of 1850!

7001. John Carpenter

John (18) Carpenter was born about 1827, married Malinda Tanner 29
February 1844 in Jackson County and resided in Gilmer County in 1850.

Mary Malinda Tanner

Here is another situation with an individual having two spouses named the John
Carpenter but who have different parents.  This Mary Malinda with the same
parents but listed as Mary, in one marriage, married John Carpenter.
Which one is the correct spouse is not known.
One of the Marys may have had for a father one of the two Jesse Tanners in the
file.

7002. Elizabeth Ann Key

Elizabeth Ann Key was born 3 November 1854, died 4 March 1939 and  married
Nathaniel "Doc" Parsons 12 July 1874. He was born 30 December 1853, son  of
Paulser B. and and Sattria (Connolly) Parsons.

Elizabeth Ann Key is taken from the Mowrey book which has her in the family of
Alfred Carpenter (18).  There is no explination why this child with a different
name is in this family.  In a later entry of the book she is again shown as
being in the family of Alfred, and her last name is spelled Kee.

9880. Francis Virginia Parsons

Frances Virginia Parsons was born 28 April 1875, died 8 January 1968 and
married Thomas Jeff Newell 25 December 1895.  This was taken from the Mowrey
book, if the birth and death dates are accurate, Francis lived to be 93 years
of age.

7003. Joshua Carpenter

Joshua (19) Carpenter was born 5 September 1857, married Samantha  Artimothy
Life in July of 1884 and died 11 August 1944 (Samantha was born 20 May 1859 and
died 28 June 1914. She was the daughter of Samuel and Mary Elizabeth   (Lough)
Life).
