Mrs. Ezra (Mildred) Steiner, 62, of Hiawatha, died unexpectedly Thursday morning, February 15, 1979, at the Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka.
She was born January 31, 1917, in Sabetha, the daughter of Ernest and Ida Neidert Carpenter and had lived in Brown County nearly all of her life.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hiawatha and the Order of Eastern Star of Hiawatha.
She was married to Ezra Steiner November 11, 1936. He died January 15, 1966.
Mrs. Steiner is survived by one son, Larry Steiner, Shawnee; three daughters, Mrs. A. J. (Dana) Latham, Auburn, Ala., Mrs. Steven (Linda Sue)Schnell, Raytown, Mo., and Janet Steiner, Hiawatha, presently a student at Emporia State University; one sister, Mrs. Bernice Norrie, Marysville, and nine Grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday morning, February 17, at ten o'clock from the First United Methodist Church of Hiawatha with the Rev. Paul Mitchell officiating. Interment was at Sabetha Cemetery.

A native of Rockford, he lived most of his life there. For several years, he was an inspector at the Rockford Watch Company. In 1894 he went into business for himself starting the partnership of Shumway & Carpenter, a jewelry business in Rockford. However, two years later, the partnership was dissolved and the business closed its doors.
Edward continued to work as a jeweler in Chicago and then Elgin until his tragic death in 1918 at the age of 53.
