Notes

508. Fanny Carpenter

Number 137 in the book "The Carpenter Family in America" by
Daniel H. Carpenter, 1901.
She married a farmer and had at least two children.

509. Isaac Carpenter

Number 138 in the book "The Carpenter Family in America" by Daniel H. Carpenter, 1901.
See page 92 & 93.

BIRTH: Musketa Cove,Oyster Bay,Queens,LI,NY.
Marriage license dated 4 Dec. 1778.  Married "by Rev Mr Oliver, chaplin of 17th Light Dragoon, Isaac Carpenter and Jane Dottenan (Woertman) both of Oyster Bay," "Married Dec. 31, 1778."  St. George's Church records, Hempstead.
Jane was the daughter of John Woertman, Jr. per his will in 1789.
Nothing else further found of Issac and Jane Carpenter except that it appears he buys 225 acres of land at or near Cedar Swamp for 594 pounds from Nathan and Freelove Horton, and the deed states that Isaac's wife is Jane Woertman.  Dated 31 Jan. 1789 (Jamacia Records, vol. 12, p. 134.) It is possible that the Hortons were co-heirs with Isaac and Jane and that this 225 acres was the orginal farm of John Woertman, Jr.
MARRIAGE:  Probably married at least twice if he had children in 1771. Were some of his child adopted from a wife's previous marriage?  Questions!

John:
Thanks for the information. There appears to be several doctors in the
Carpenter tree. In a book called , A Historical Sketch Of The Town Of
Scituate, R.I., published by Phenix Capron & Campbell, Steam Book and Job
Printers, 1877 they cite "Dr. Cyril Carpenter, in that part of Situate
now Foster, lived in the later part of the last century, and from him
descended two generations in the healing art: his son Thomas and his
grandson, Thomas O. Carpenter, a skillful doctor of grate promise, who
died early".
Does this data apply to this line?

SURNAME:
Both Howe and Low given as surnames.

523. Samuel Carpenter

NOTE:  WARNING:
James Usher, a lawyer for the Carpenter Family Association messed up several Carpenter lines deliberately to prevent eligibility for any potential English inheritance. It was a scam the Carpenter Family Association fell for. For example Usher changed days or months in DOBs and other odd stuff. Be Aware.
Of the Cotleb Zimmerman line per James Usher.  Usher was wrong.
SEE: Genealogical and Historical Record of the Carpenter Family, by James Usher
Page 30 regarding The Carpenter Family of Long Island and NY.
Usher has Elizabeth Leeds as wife. This is likely in error. See her notes.

MARRIAGE:
Samuel may have married twice.  His second marriage not listed.
In the AF may have been with Elizabeth Willson when he resided in West Jersey.
Marriage by 1760 in Sussex (now Warren) county, NJ.  This per records of
Katherine Stone Moore of Stanwood, WA.  If this is so the last two children
(the Twins) would have been to Elizabeth Willson. Her DOB or marriage is uncertain.
BUT ...
Rhode Island Meeting Records indicate that Samuel & Elizabeth Willison had a Joseph 1745 PA and a John 17?? ? - thus the second marriage cited above seems reversed. She should be the first wife.
Elizabeth Willison b. abt 1730 of NJ is more likely b. abt 1717 and married Samuel Carpenter as his first wife. Elizabeth Leeds at best is a second wife or listed in error.
PLEASE NOTE:  Jesse Carpenter has been making an excellent effort to figure out the mess on this family. Thanks Jesse!  JRC 3/2018.
